What up Escapist crew. I wanted to know if many of you Dark Souls fans are playing on the PC. I've been holding off on buying it because it's riddled with so many issues, from the keyboard and mouse controls, the click delay, crashes, controller stick deadzones, etc. Anyway, the Steam forum threads about problems with the game have around 3000 posts each, but I know this is a vocal minority. I'm surprised there hasn't been any threads about this on here though considering the number of Souls fans that frequent this site.

So really what I want to know is, how many of you are playing DKS II on PC, and would you say it's safe to buy? Are you having any of the problems afflicting a number of people and have you found feasible work arounds? I only ask here because thoughtful comments often get lost on the Steam threads which are full of vitriol and anger right now. Thanks!

TLDR: Do you have Dark Souls II on the PC? Does it work?

I've had no problems. I've been playing with an Xbox controller, so I don't know how the keyboard controls are, but in terms of functionality, it's completely fine.

Been playing since release day, 50 hours in and so far I've experienced no crashes. Can't comment on the mouse and keyboard issue as I'm using a controller. From a technical standpoint, at least for me, the game runs perfectly on a low to mid level PC. I did get invaded by a hacker wearing Black Robes and that multi shot crossbow in Heide's though.

edit: forgot to Praise the Sun.

I've had it on PC since release day and have been able to play it with no issues. So far I haven't crashed or had any framerate issues at all, they seems to have done a great job.

I've been playing with a PS3 controller however so I don't know what the keyboard and mouse controls are like, I can't even imagine playing it on anything other than a controller and im pretty sure that is what they designed the games control scheme around so i'd recommend using a controller if you can.

I haven't heard about problems with the Dar Souls 2 PC port. All I've heard is that it's the best version of the game. I beat it once on PS3 and have stopped playing until the PC version goes on sale. I don't want to play on an inferior version of the game, but I also don't want to pay full price for a game I already own

Been playing it fine since I purchased it a few days ago. No crashes or bugs or any frame rate drops. Not sure about the keyboard and mouse controls as I use a 360 controller. I wouldn't be surprised that the reason you're not hearing about DS2 lots from the escapist community is because they're all playing the damn thing. Any hoo got to go praise the sun and die lots!! happy gaming! :D

I'm playing it. And I have no problems with keyboard controls. In fact, with some remapping I find the controls better than with the controller.

The game works perfectly fine for me. I've had no problems apart from my slightly shitty gamepad. The game is good on PC.

It is A LOT better than DS1's PC release, and there are still already a ton of mods to up the graphical quality even more. It works perfectly fine.

Game works great. I haven't had a single crash or bug and the online connections are vastly improved. Framerate holds rock steady at 60 and the whole thing just looks damn pretty. From have learnt from their mistakes well in this regard.

I've played about 40 hours of it on the PC, plugged in an Xbox 360 controller and it has worked fine with no issues whatsoever. The game has crashed for me maybe once on startup? It runs really well for me and I'm loving it, definitely safe to buy judging from my experiences.

Finished it yesterday after 50 hours or something. No problems whatsoever. After rebinding a few keys it worked just fine with mouse and keyboard (left and right weapon are switched on the mouse for example which is really really weird. Left click controls right weapon and vice versa). Besides that no crashes, no frame drops, no big bugs. It is a much much better port than DS1 was.

It works.

It gets solid 60 fps on even a mediocre machine and that's the only thing that really matters, everything else you can fix.
Graphics are slightly downgraded form Prepare to Die edition but the performance boost and stability are enormous in comparison.

If you plan to play it with a controller go right ahead, it's fine. For keyboard and mouse you have to make a couple tweaks.

The good news is mouse camera works fine now, the bad news is the game is a direct copy of the console version again and the rest of the controls reflect as such. Even the in game control display is for the Xbox controller and can not be changed.
Default controls are of course nonsensical and they utilize a couple of combinations copied from consoles that can not be used reliably with mouse and keyboard and can not be rebound in-game. However, a simple autohotkey script can fix them easily. For example I set it to use R for jump attack and F for guard break.

I've put some 100 hours into Dark Souls 2, it has some glaring issues but it's still a good game. 8/10 IMO

Gave Dark Souls PtD edition another shot now, took me a couple hours to make it work properly but I'm enjoying it now.

I played it and finished it on PC with a controller in like 50 hours. I haven't touched it since, because I have other things to do in my backlog.

The game was very enjoyable and I decided to go for "jolly cooperation" for every boss.

I've played about 50 hours since release, haven't had any issues. DS2 is very much playable on mouse and keyboard once you rebind a few annoyingly placed keys (why the fuck did From bind default lock-on button to "O"? And confirm to "Enter"? Taking your hand away from attack/block button is a sure way to die in this game). I've gotten to SL155 and on my way through NG+ now.

The PC version had a launch crash issue for some which was seemingly fixed a couple days after release, i've had zero issues.

I tried keyboard and mouse and it works, there are user mods for more tinkering with that stuff but really you should be playing it with a controller, works great with a wired 360 pad.

Here's what you should be basing your decision on though, on a medium level pc it runs at 60+ frames per second and the loading times are roughly 2000 times shorter than console, seriously on PS3 every time you load a new area you have to wait around 30 seconds, on PC it's about 2.

No problems with it so far. Keyboard/mouse controls are ok but I find it much easier to use a controller.

I play it on PC, don't have a console. But I actually like it on PC more simply because I can play it with mouse and keyboard. It just works better for me. I tried Demon's Souls with a controller at a friends place and on PC with DS1, it just doesn't work for me that way.
