I get more or less the opposite where I live. Bi-sexual, gay, lesbian or trans-gendered people are protected characteristics and thus individuals have every right to express that. So we get a very metropolitan society, maybe you should move here!

Also, being atheist is the only sure fire way to not be made fun of or judged where I live. The minute you say you're Christian (like I am) then you're judged to be a moral dinosaur who rapes children and hates gay people. It's very easy getting into an argument with individuals who do this sort of thing because they're really vicious people when it comes to this and you'll get your head torn off needlessly when you've actually done nothing wrong. After that, it's nigh on impossible for them to change their mind about you, regardless of the amount of love you show them.

Anyway, aside from that. I don't like the societal norm in my country that unless you're going out every weekend getting hammered, you're not 'cool' or whatever. I prefer more responsible things like the cinema, or hanging with friends, or even just a nice pub to chill out in.
I don't think I'd like that much, either. It feels good to have people agree with you, but I just want a place where everyone can discuss their own opinions without fear of being viciously attacked for it.

The idea that everyone must be happy. Now let me clarify that by saying I don't enjoy being misserable either but sometimes I just have an off day or maybe just not feeling anything at all, my "comfortably average" days I call them.

But no those arnt good enough answers, they need detailed reasons of exactly the problems even if there arn't any to begin with! Instead everyone and their mum has to try and disect my life and try to make it better, theres no solution its just "one of those days", stop asking!

Which incidently I really hate the convention of asking people, particularily people you barely know like people you work with but never see and the only connection you have with them is clocking in at the door, "how are you?" because lets face it no one cares, its just a convention, you really want to know how I am I'll tell you but you don't want that, you just want to hear the "good, you?" response everyone expects and we can all get along with our lives so please dont waste my time asking.

And speaking of work place colleagues, the idea that we all have to be closer than family, an exaguration perhaps but still while I think we shouldn't make life hell for one another that doesnt mean we all need to be buddy-buddy to get the job done, the only thing we have in common is the work place, sure ive met some friends through work but others, ugh we don't get along as it is, I'm more than happy to have no contact with them outside work, stop pushing it damn it!

Ok I think I'm done with my ramble

It annoys me how it's okay for people to say how much they hate cats and would kill one rather than own it. If a person were to say this about dogs people would place you as an outcast.
Second man owns cat = gay

Really stupid.

Small talk. I find it hard to believe you're interested in what I do for a living, friend of a friend of a friend, and I'd like to get to know new people but I'm so utterly bored of telling people I'm a student and what course I'm on. Can't we play a game instead? Or dance? Or tell stories? Oh no, because we don't know each other and that would be TOO FORWARD.

Actually, generally people being expected to act mundane. It'd be nice if we could all walk down the street wearing gloves on our ears waving our arms about and muttering to ourselves without having to feel like we must be mad or something. It can feel so liberating.

That's why if I see someone has a multi-sneeze going on, I count it out loud and THEN say a blanket "bless you" or "gesundheit". Usually comment on "the record", which from what I've heard (in person) is nine.

As for what I hate?

"Wait... you two are dating?"
"Yeah, we've been together for like five months. I kissed her in front of you..."
"Yeah, but you aren't, you know, Facebook official."

I've never sneezed more than three times in rapid succession. Nine is kind of scary.

Wearing jeans!

Jeans are boring and..... boring. That's all I've got. But I will never wear jeans as long as I have my strength!
i'm not fond of wearing pants in general and i have to agree jeans are boring, but i also can't deny that as working pants, they are bar none the best.

OT: my personal pet peeve is sexual harassment. particularly the double standard with women in the workplace. They want equality, which im happy to give them but at the same time i can't be lewd around them like i can with the guys or they might slap me with a sexual harassment suit! peer inspired censorship! booooo.

Any "special day" that requires you to give someone something

birthdays, xmas, mother's/father's day, valentines day etc etc etc

I have a better idea, why not just treat the people who are special to you well EVERY day? Occasionally get them gifts because you are thinking of them if you want, or not.

This would put Hallmark out of business but screw them. People should figure out how to express their feelings without buying a damn card.

Handshakes/hugs/touchy stuff. Unless I'm dating you, I don't want to touch you and don't want you to touch me.
I feel so freaking awkward when people with whom I'm more of an acquaintance than a friend try to hug me. I always flinch and my skin crawls. Don't hug me. Get away.

Some people, mostly younger (high school age, I'm 22 for point of reference) actually think that being together but not "Facebook official" is effectively equal to it being a "fling".

It is fucking pathetic.

Kind of adding to the suits thing mentioned above: having to wear formal clothing on any occasion and by extension, having to wear anything other than what I want to wear for no reason other than social convention.

Seriously, what is the difference between me wearing a suit to a job interview rather than the infinitely more comfortable and practical jeans and a t-shirt? This is a point that I'm sure is either going to lose me many potential jobs in the future, or frustrate the hell out of me every time I have to do it, to the point that I will have to restrain myself from smashing my head repeatedly against a wall.

Other social conventions I dislike include marriage, blind and stubborn disregard for science in favour of outdated ignorance, any arbitrary traditions that if breached would be considered disproportionately rude despite having little to no objective detriment to the situation, birthdays, most other occasions when I am obligated to get gifts for someone for reasons beyond my comprehension and so on and so forth in an increasingly misanthropic manner...
to a job interview its simple, it shows that you care enough to make an effort. Its just an easy way to disqualify people who aren't serious enough about getting a job. Now once you get to said job the rules can be relaxed (3 out of the last 4 jobs i worked, i was allowed to wear my comfy jeans)
Yeah, the part I don't understand is why uncomfortable clothing constitutes 'making an effort'; the definition of formal clothing seems absurdly arbitrary and unfortunately falls into a category that I do not like to wear. The very fact that I am there at the job interview should imply that I want the job. The only factors that should determine my success at this interview should be those concerning my ability to do the job effectively.
