The wife is a retired science teacher and expressed reservations that the solar farm would inhibit photosynthesis of plants in the area. She also pointed to the high number of cancer cases, and said she has not gotten any proof that the panels are not the culprit (the council has previously approved three other solar farms in the area).

"I want to know what's going to happen," she said. "I want information. Enough is enough. I don't see the profit for the town. People come with hidden agendas. Until we can find if anything is going to damage this community, we shouldn't sign any paper."
Science teacher? Really? Are you fucking kidding me?
A science teacher is demanding the proof of a negative? Solar pannels sucking in more energy and taking it away from plants?
What in the name of everything that's important is going on here? Why do people like this have any saying at all in this matter?
First I thought the artcile was joking and I kept reading to find out what actually happened, but nope. They are serious.
How I'm currently imagining the retired science teacher.

I have a tiny little homonculus in my head screaming this has to be from the Onion.
That is the first thing I checked to see if this was some spoof site ala The Onion. Sadly, no.

Idiots always have numbers on their side, they can't figure out condoms.

I wonder what would happen if the solar panels were taken away, along with the town's connection to the state power grid. They're taking power from other local businesses after all, their use might not leave enough power for everyone else, it could affect the economy!

I thought there were legitimate reasons not to put large amounts of solar panels together, such as the reflective surfaces confusing birds, but this... sheesh.
If you put enough of them in the right pattern, you can make parabolic mirrors that (quite literally) create focal points hot enough to instantly kill birds that fly through. Or you can use it to heat water to run a steam turbine like the Ivanpah SEGS.

Or you can put anti reflective coatings on the panels, all the reflection is wasted energy anyway so it make no difference to generating capacity, but that's really boring.

It is a shame that so many people don't bother going to town and city meetings or bother to vote. Because when you are an intelligent educated person and you don't, these are the kind of people that end up taking the majority.

A science teacher? She's a science teacher? I don't even know how to insult this kind of ignorance properly.

Well, it's not as bad as the Fox news network at least. Those people try to convince others of their insanity, these folks are mostly self contained.

So...the mentally challenged anti-vacintation is...breeding like smallpox?

This is just...INSANE.
There's no way that woman is a REAL 'science teacher'.
I, just...it can't be.

If she's a 'science' teacher, than Donald Trump is an Iman.

I mean, how STUPID do you have to be?
Solar panels do NOT cause cancer.
They do NOT bring in extra sunlight.
They do NOT soak up so much of the sun's energy to ANY kind of negativity to the area

These morons who appose this MUST be funded by big oil and big coal.
Either that, or, just...uck.

Democracy! Freedom! Wooo!
The unfortunate downside to democracy is that sometimes the idiots have the numbers.
The average wisdom and intelligence simply did not keep up with the expanding number of people being allowed to influence our society.
This is probably why Aristocracy was used back before the unwashed masses "earned" the right to make decisions.
