Solar Farm Rejected For Fear of Too Much Energy Sucking

In other news, town also refuses to allow a wind farm to be built, due to fears that kite-flying and sailing would become impossible as all the wind is consumed by the unholy abominations desecrating their soil.

I'm more concerned with GMO solar energy. Are we ready for Frankensolar?

...seriously, though. What is even the hell.

Reminder: this is the same nation that produced a neurosurgeon that believes that the pyramids are grain storage. A science teacher that believes this isn't too far away from that.

Although let's think of the fun we could do if this were true. We could terraform all the world's deserts. We could stop glacial melt by putting solar panels on the ice. We could even make London even more dreary than it already is!

And you are asking why USA started to lose leading role in the world. Among other reasons.
Every day makes me more ashamed to be an American than the last. I can help keep people like Donald Trump out of office, but I cannot cure the stupidity that plagues the nation.

This little exercise in idiocy has only further convinced me that I need to emigrate before someone times to put me in a camp for having an IQ over 80.

Either this is the highest level of stupidity, or the highest level of intelligence... Hear me out here. Very few people understand how property values really work, but they think they do. Very few people understand how plants/cancer work, and don't really care. Any industrial plant will hurt property values so maybe instead of trying to argue the rational point that people would resist, she was arguing an idiotic foreign concept with her credentials to encounter much less resistance. Right end for the wrong reason kindda thing. That, or she's just a fuqin idiot. Who knows?

Guys everyone knows the sun is actually a sleeping curled up giant fire dragon... if we keep trying to steal it's energy we're eventually going to wake it up and incur it's wrath.... didn't you guys ever go to science class? Hell my science class was in the dry part of our nuclear bunker in Alaska, and even I know not to wake up the sleeping fire dragon by taking it's golden rays. Idiots...

You just can't make this kind of shit up, you really can't. I wish I could say that I don't believe that people could be so mind-bogglingly stupid, but I can't. And the woman was a former teacher, of science no less? Did I read that right? I weep for the poor, under-educated children that passed through her classroom, they probably lost IQ points just being in her proximity.

Jesus, think about how efficient those solar panels must be in order to do that.

Then think about how many wind turbines we'd need to make Joe Barton's prediction about slowing down the wind true.

My god, the idiots in Woodland who voted against this need to be slapped vigorously.

I hope this town's newfound infamy makes it to the mainstream media. I can't help but imagine it would over here, but..

I'd love to think it was just confined to the US, but I've seen firsthand this kind of shit going down in Australia too. In my case it was wind farms, not solar farms, but the arguments were similarly flimsy.

I thought there were legitimate reasons not to put large amounts of solar panels together, such as the reflective surfaces confusing birds, but this... sheesh.
If you put enough of them in the right pattern, you can make parabolic mirrors that (quite literally) create focal points hot enough to instantly kill birds that fly through. Or you can use it to heat water to run a steam turbine like the Ivanpah SEGS.

Or you can put anti reflective coatings on the panels, all the reflection is wasted energy anyway so it make no difference to generating capacity, but that's really boring.
Did know about the potential for death rays, didn't know about the anit-reflective coating. Now that you mention it, the new solar panels on the roof across the street look less shiny than the older ones on the house at the end of the street.

Democracy! Freedom! Wooo!
The unfortunate downside to democracy is that sometimes the idiots have the numbers.
The average wisdom and intelligence simply did not keep up with the expanding number of people being allowed to influence our society.
This is probably why Aristocracy was used back before the unwashed masses "earned" the right to make decisions.
Initially most likely, back in small tribes, let the eldars take care of the thinking whilst the young-uns do the heavy lifting.

I would say it's most likely the other way around for most of civilisation, holding onto your power is alot easier when you're the only one with the knowledge and training to use it.

She also pointed to the high number of cancer cases, and said she has not gotten any proof that the panels are not the culprit (the council has previously approved three other solar farms in the area).

Wow, this coming from a science teacher no less. This is just so embarrassing. I mean i could see the inhibiting of plant life potentially being an issue if the solar panel farm is REALLY huge, but the cancer bit, coming from a science teacher?! That's deeply, DEEPLY shameful.

Fuck people like this, people who just spout baseless, paranoid fears because they're afraid of progress. They're the damn cancer of our generation.

How..? Why..? What do they teach in schools these days? Better yet, have they even been in school?
