There has been a recent phenominon taking place in my neck of the woods. Tickets go on sale for a band or a festival, and fifteen minutes later they're all gone. while i'm happy to see that amount of cash (more often than not over 100 AU) being thrown into an artist, I think things are a little bit out of control.

I personally blame the internet and the invention of eBay for screwing over the REAL music fans who go out and camp in front of the box office. Ticket prices are already very expensive, and if you add "scalper's fees" to that it's rediculous. Tell me, have you ever missed out on a concert? have you ever manned up and camped out in the rain for your tickets? Share your stories!

Sort of. I waited for 15 hours for super smash brothers brawl. They said the computers broke for all gamestops in the area and it would be a while before there fixed. 15 hours later they let me and only me(mostly because I had been there all night and that people came and went for a few hours) in and gave me a copy of the game. They didnt let anyone else in for a half hour. So there still is hope out there for the die hard fans of gaming, music, movies, ect...

I am a usual around that gamestop anyway.

Well, one of the only times I have ever tried to buy something on the spot is a ticket to Iron Man for opening night. What do you think happened?

hmmm... yeah, I missed the recent radiohead concert, because by the time I heard about it the tickest had already been sold, and my brothers girlfriend bought him a ticket, and it sounded like a good concert so now I'm sad...

most ticket outlets, like ticketmaster, don't allow you to buy mass amounts of tickets at once anymore, to stop scalping

when i got tickets to the make up tool conert last year, the tickets sold out REALLY fast, the guy behind me couldn't get floor tickets

If you are feeling lucky you can always take your chances down at the venue and rock up and buy tickets at the door. There have been at least three supposedly "sold old" gigs I've been to where you could still buy a ticket at the door (albeit there were only ten available so you had to be stupidly fast)

I have a friend who saw that concert! He said the performance itself was just fair, but the visual effects were stunning...
Well, if it makes you feel better (lol) I didn't get to see it either

I don't like crowds or most live events, so the only thing I've ever had a similar problem with was going to see (of all things) Wall-E in the theater. Instead of just letting people sit down after they bought their tickets like usual, they made everyone line up like first graders. It was really bizarre--especially so since they didn't really get close to selling out and I fail to see how making people stand in line AFTER they've bought their tickets is going to help matters.

Only fun ticket story I have is from Ticketmaster... I heard about the Dear Friends concert in Chicago too late, and they were sold out, so I refreshed every five minutes for an entire 20 hours until finally someone made a return or whatever and a ticket became available. One of the best moments ever.

I purchased a movie ticket in advance for The Dark Knight, but when you have a group of 12 going you really can't risk not getting into the movie. :p

I wish I had gone to see Paramore live though. I now cry myself to sleep every night.

I was supposed to see Pirates of the Carribean III on opening day with some people from work. They all bought their tickets in advance but I waited to get mine at the door and they were sold out. I never understood why those damn movies were so popular...

And there was another time when Tool was playing in a city near where I live. I was debating buying tickets for me and a girl from work that I liked who likes Tool, but I didn't know how she would react and I had seen Tool before anyway. I finally decided to just do it, but they were sold out by then.

The only thing that has really sold out for me has been Beerfest (no, not the movie). It's a local beer tasting in Durham, NC. It was literally sold out in 10 minutes and you just have to keep refreshing the screen to try and get tickets. The last couple of years there haven't been scalpers b/c everyone wants to go, even the scalpers!

Bon Jovi was almost impossible to get into also. I didn't get the tickets, but for $95 a pop, I'm pretty sure I'm okay with it.

Woah, the same thing happened when I went to the dark knight. After people had bought their tickets they weren't allowed in the theater initially, they had to line up and wait. Of course, I got a ticket beforehand in the directors hall which has assigned seating so I could just go straight in. Heh, suckers.

We have a theater here with that "director's hall, assigned seating" thing, too--and every time I've seen a movie there someone was sitting in my seat. So I went and sat somewhere else. No one complained.

David Bowie tickets when I was in highschool, I believe it was the reality tour he was doing state side, However they were of course sold out and was so very close to going to a raidostation at midnight and trying to compete in a wet-shirt style context to win tickets. I am still afraid that he will not tour again or maybe once more due to his age.
