Kurt Russell is the obvious choice, but he might be too old. Then again, Snake looks like he's about 100 years old nowadays...

Pirates of the Caribbean 1 was apparently adapted from a Monkey Island script. Probably doesn't count I know but I'm going to cling to that while also liking Mortal Kombat.

All things considered, Hugh Jackman may actually make a decent Solid/Liquid Snake. I'd also love to see Viggo Mortensen play a villain, given that he's a bit too old to play Snake at this point. Unless it's Naked Snake.

OT: Don't really think Metal Gear Solid needs a movie. The games themselves tell a decent enough story, plus there are some really long (albeit brilliant) cutscenes in there. That and I have very little faith that Hollywood will do this series any justice.

That would be so hilariously awesome if Kurt Russell played Snake, but alas... he is far too old for that now. Wish we could go back to right after they filmed Escape From New York. Snake was inspired by that character after all.

We can get Kurt Russel to Play Big Boss at the least.
