Hey guys, I need your help.

I'm trying to figure out a term related to meditation.

These are statements that are used by, I believe, Buddhists during meditation to focus. If I recall properly they are a sort of paradoxical statement or problem to use to help clear the mind and train in to focus.

I don't remember what they're called, though, so I can't look for them anywhere. I've tried several terms in Google but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. They were referenced in some Psych related article I read last month.

SOLVED: Figured it out, the term I was looking for was "kōan." Zen concept.

It sounds a bit like Vipassanā meditation...but it also sounds like you're getting confused with martial arts movies...

Like the sound of one hand clapping or whether a falling tree makes a sound when no one is around to hear it?

I'm not. I know what I read and heard about. I just forgot the labeling word for the type of phrase.

Figured it out, the term I was looking for was "kōan." Zen concept.

Those sound about right.. Just need to know what they're called in general.

Figured it out, the term I was looking for was "kōan." Zen concept.
