That is not a silver lining, "It is not as bad as it could have been" is not good news. If the breach gave Sony an idea for making an almost hack proof system would be a silver lining.

I used PSN cards all my life, and had about 15 rubles (that's not much at all) left on my account. So no loss for me.

So the good news is that there is either no credit card breaches, or that Sony broke some serious laws? This "good" news seems like it could possibly put an end to the Playstation and Sony for good.

I hope that Sony will stop existing after this. I hate this company.
says the guy with the WINDOWS LOGO AS A PROFILE PIC obvious fanboy is obvious (this is one mistake(granted a huge one) but the XBL has been hacked a couple of times and if anyone is more totalitarian than Sony it's Microsoft and Apple (Apple being just a bit more totalitarian than microsoft))
Fanboy? Me? Never.
First of all, I don't even have an Xbox 360 - I'm a PC. And I'm writing this from my MBP using Snow Leopard 10.6.7. And i have Ubuntu on the other disk in my other, PC computer. But i like Windows 7, and no-one seems to support MS (even though they are really good to the community and customers), so at least I put the logo in my avatar. It's pretty, so why not:) Also, if i was a fanboy, I would be smart enough not to put the pic to avoid this accusation.

Why do i hate Sony? I never liked it, because it was a weird company, but when they have sued Hotz for using his own PS3 the way he wanted, well, this was too much. I'm a supporter of freedom, i believe in what Anon stands for.

Unfortunately for Sony, i DID get a mystery $250 charge during the time frame in question and had to cancel my bank card. I wasn't sure WHAT comprised the account until this turned up. I would have appreciated knowing knowing a bit earlier.

It's impossible to prove that they were the ones that leaked my card info, but the time frame fits, hacked 17-19th, and i got the mystery charge the 18th. Keep a close eye on your cards, because at least mine got nailed.

sorry for calling you a fanboy but you must admit you did kinda look like a fanboy at that comment

okay i see your point but stop existing? isn't that a bit too far I've had a realy good experience with Sony and this is the first time they have ever let me down. and do I realy need to explain the GeoHotz thing again. here goes:

geohots jailbroke the ps3 allowing for anyone to make custom firmware therefore circumventing all copyright protection built into the ps3 system. this allows for anyone to create custom firmware with built in ILLEGALY DOWNLOADED PS3 games(which you can download now from various sources) therefore HE is the one who enabled pirating for the ps3.
now this wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't released the software nececary with instructions on the internet for anyone to use for whatever means they want (worst case scenario hacking and pirating). so of course Sony wanted this taken down we're talking about possible MILLIONS of dollars in loss. so they looked at what he had done and they believed that he broke some of what stood in the EULA (the thing everyone skips and selects "I accept"). If he hadn't realeased this on the interned I doubt Sony would have even noticed him but becouse of internet outcry and THREATS from sources such as ANONYMOUS Sony decited to reach a setlement as soon as possible.

this isn't a "freedom" argument and anyone who says this has something to do with "freedom" is simply wrong. now I do realize that taking "other OS" away from the PS3 was a dick move but internet threats of hacking their system if demands are not met (also called internet hostage situation or corporate internet terrorism)is not a sensible way to go about things(the thing that has most often worked to persuade a company of that size has been for people to band together and flood the company's E-mail innbox with explained requests with points suportin your claim(just like most people did in school) )

p.s. boy this there are a LOT of spelling errors on my part but sorry to say I have no idea how these words are suposed to be spelled

p.s.s. sorry for ranting but people misunderstand this case so frequently that I was bound to rant sooner or later

edit: fixed some of the more obvoius spelling errors and want to note that I am a happy windows user too and like that company on a similar level to Sony (but sony rates slightly higer)
