In my English class, students are allowed to bring in songs for everyone to listen to every Tuesday. We recently received a Smartboard, so people have been bringing in videos as well. I was wondering if any residents of The Escapist could think of a good song that:
1)Has meaningful lyrics.
2)Doesn't contain profanity.
& 3)Has a good, appropriate music video.

If anyone knows of a song that fits the criteria, I would be appreciative, for I've already brought in a few songs and can't really think of any more. Most of the songs that my classmates have brought in have been hip-hop, which I have nothing against, but I'd rather bring in a rock song.

Hm, it's kinda hard to ask for suggestions, after all everyone has their own taste.

Oddly enough though, we're doing the same thing with our smartboards.

Anyways, a personal favorite that is a cool song and video (without using profnity or anything considered innapropriate) is "The Day I Tried To Live" by Soundgarden.

My favorite band being Tool, I couldn't have posted in this thread without mentioning a Tool song, though most of their videos would get you some weird ass looks from class mates. I know this because I did the song "Stinkfist" by Tool, and half the class hasn't talked to me since.

So far, from the one's I've watched, I'm considering:
?Everlong
?Land of Confusion
?Sweet Child 'O Mine
?Say It Ain't So
& ?Into the Ocean.

Stinkfest by Tool sounded good, but I'll agree that the video may be too...strange to bring in. Also, I like and would bring in Before I Forget, but it seems a little to heavy for the class. I'm still looking at some of the others.

I'd like to refine my initial statement. As proven by the above song, which is absolutely brilliant, I'll bring in a song regardless of genre. So feel free to post whatever you want, as long as it fits those original three points.

Please play this song. Even if you don't like it, it should wind up your teacher.

Actually, I love Pink Floyd, but I'd agree, my teacher probably wouldn't like the song.

I don't think they would let me play this.

Ah, you can't forget the classics. I'll definitely have to remember theses, especially Thunderstruck.

So far, the song I'm leaning toward (which no one has mentioned, though the band has been mentioned) is Best of You by Foo Fighters, but I've undeniably got many more choices now, as well as songs that I haven't even heard of before.

When I was at primary school, I was set the same assignment, so I asked my dad. He recommended 'Leningrad' by Billy Joel, which did pretty well for me. It was the eighties at the time, though, so it probably seemed more pertinent then. I don't know if Leningrad had a video, though. I remember that one of my classmates chose 'Rio' by Duran Duran, which seems like quite a stretch for meaningful lyrics. The cold war seems like an age away now, but I remember my teacher teaching us that we should climb under the desk in the event of a Soviet nuclear attack, like in the song.

Also, 'What God Wants Part 1' by Roger Waters, ex-of Pink Floyd.
