Well,I think hell may have froze over finally. That, or 2012 is real; either way, Sonic Generations has gotten an 8.5 out of10. I not going to go into it so I'll let the video speak for itself.

Edit: forgot to add some stuff :p

anyway I'm looking forward to the game and I am glad IGN gave it a good score. After their review on Unleashed I was a little hesitant about how they would review this game. As for the review itself So you think the score is fair? should it be higher or lower, and do you think the guy playing it was really awful?

P.S. i think he could have played it much, much better.

And cue a bunch of cloned comments about IGNorance and money exchanged for review scores....

It just might actually be good. I haven't played a Sonic game since I had my Game Gear though.

Gameplay is great, though ALL of Sonic's friends show up.

I think they are all unplayable though, so I guess just skip the cutscenes.

Oh and he's still Eggman not Robotnik

I don't doubt it would be a good game as well. I'm actually looking forward to it. the fact that ign gave it this high of a score excites me.

So does that mean it's safe for me to buy it? I'm still wary of the fact that he said there are the occasional clunky controls that stop the action. That's been my number one complaint that has prevented me from buying any sonic games past Sonic Heroes. I never played Sonic for the story. I played it for the gameplay and if that is anything other than top notch, there's no reason for me to play it. Think I'll look up a few more reviews a little later.

While I could care less about Sonic games and the franchise, it makes me happy to see the quality of their games improving. If games of this caliber can keep being made over the next couple years they might even be considered AAA status by the larger gaming community again.

As soon as I saw the perfect chaos fight I knew I was sold, sweet sweet nostalgia. Please tell me I'm not the only one who though sonic adventure was the best sonic game ever...

How is this a bad thing? Why is this constantly being treated as a bad thing?

This is why I have a hard time taking all of the shaming of modern Sonic games without a heavy grain of salt. If new Sonic games are bad, it's not because they contain characters other than Sonic and Tails.

Amy Rose and Knuckles both showed up on the 2D Sonic era.

Most people don't have issues with Tails, Amy or Knuckles.

It's with the other useless supporting cast that do nothing but distract from what makes Sonic good.

If people honestly care about Blaze the Cat or whatever they can go read crappy fan made stuff on Deviant art.

I sure hope that there isn't a homage level to Shadow the hedgehog. Unless that games awfulness is actually something you get to punch in the face in some kind of horrific boss battle that makes a specific point of not involving guns in any shape or form.

You get to beat the crap out of Shadow, does that count?

*EDIT* As for the reviews, IGN's isn't the only 8.5, it has already gotten about 2 or 3 8.5+ scores in the last few days. *EDIT*

I must admit I'm getting more and more optimistic about this game day by day. Now can't wait until the 4th.

What's wrong with wanting a nice strong, female character?

She's a lot more of a strong woman than Amy Rose, who is constantly a cliche damsel in distress for Sonic.

Adding characters has been something that SEGA has been doing since the beginning. And it makes sense. The first Sonic the Hedgehog game, while awesome, was pretty lonely.

I don't care, honestly. I want to run fast and get rings.

So? Its not unheard of for a sonic game to be good. most just have been very poor in the last few years.

Re-live past Sonic games?

Color me interested.

It would be cool to battle Shadow a second time in HD.

Heck, I'm honestly quite happy about my Sonic Unleashed purchase. Sure, the Werehog was annoying in many ways. But it was still worth playing and several of the day stages were super loads of fun.

It rather makes me want to try playing the other horribly reviewed Sonic games, because they can't be all as bad people say they are. If I enjoyed Sonic Unleashed at all, and had a pretty great time playing Sonic Riders, I'm sure I wouldn't have that bad of a time playing 2006 or Sonic and the Black Knight. Or so forth. They were panned too, just like Sonic Unleashed. But I still bet I'd have a decent time playing them.

Also, what on earth is wrong with the concept of Sonic being in medieval settings?

Gosh, I'm not going to be popular for these posts.

Well, I really enjoyed the demo, even the 3D stage. I'd already resolved to buy, or at the very least rent it. Something tells me 8.5 may actually be a conservative score, too.

A couple of the things mentioned in the review above as negative aspects are pretty subjective. For example, a slight mistake bringing you to a dead stop. This is apparent even in the rather forgiving levels featured in the demo, and in my opinion, it's the way Sonic games should be. Prolonged stints of blistering speed should come as a reward for excellent reactions and well-timed jumps and boosts, not as a given. It's those sudden, jarring stops as you misjudge a jump that make the high-speed sections feel all the more exhilarating and rewarding. Besides, the boost feature makes it really easy to pick up speed again, so even if you find the game's unforgiving attitude towards mistakes frustrating, recovering and getting back on track is often only a couple of jumps and/or a boost away.

Shame about the lack of bosses, though. Hopefully the ones that are in there are suitably fun to make up for their small volume.
