Graphics look like crap, but the gameplay looks decent. I'll try it if nothing else. I'm sure there is some fan out there that would be willing to redo the art on it if you release the source instead of just the executable.

Nice E.P. But Yahtzee, I seriously enjoyed all of other games and I'm looking forward to "Poacher." Your survival horror games have particularly scared the crap out of me many times.

The moment I saw that picture, I thought to myself... "It reminds me of that guy off hot fuzz"

Wait... can't understand him? It IS that guy off hot fuzz!

Pst... the one in red.

Poacher looks pretty cool. I can't wait to give it a try when it's finished.

I really liked Art of Theft, but I had to give up a couple levels in because of a quicktime event I couldn't get past. The irony of being stopped by a QTE in a game made by Yahtzee almost made it worth it, but I'd really like to see the rest of that game some day. Hopefully this next one won't have anything like that in it.

I haven't played Generations, but Colors was pretty fun. On the other hand, none of the things I liked about Colors seem to have been carried over to Generations, so I don't have very much interest in ever giving it a try.

Can he really say that the general response to Sonic was 'what were you expecting'? I seem to remember the general feel to be, 'actually, it's pretty good'. (mixed with the occasional complaint and some eternalnothingness bashing).
That's pretty much the vibe I got, too. I was honestly a bit surprised that there weren't as many people hating on the game as I imagined there would be.
Yeah, I'm a bit confused with Yahtzee's opening on this article too. I browsed through the thread associated with his Sonic Generation review and there's very, very little that indicates the reaction was "What, you expected it to not suck?" as he implies it was. Go take a look at the thread, the reaction to Yahtzee's video review was overwhelmingly "Oh, you didn't like it? That's a shame, I did. Funny review though."

Perhaps he's talking of e-mail responses? It would surprise me to here the e-mail response was so drastically different from the thread posts, though.

The pixel art itself doesn't look bad in terms of quality I think, just inconsistent stylistically. The thing that jars me watching the trailer is how some tiles fade to black from the edges and others tile infinitely the the ends of the screen. On the outdoor tutorial scene, both methods are used literally on a single screen (hedges, ground) so it stands out a lot.

Having said that, if the gameplay is good and I can see what the heck it is I'm doing, then it'll be a good game. I'll always eargerly anticipate a new offbeat game.

Fuck Sonic, I stopped caring about him and the franchise a looong time ago. Loved the Sonic titles we had on the Gamegear but after that I didn't really see him anywhere (because I got Nintendo consoles for christmasses). A few years back, I could play some Sonic "3D" running-title... I think it was on the gamecube? Was so horrible it hurt my brain :(

But that game of yours looks funny, Yahtzee. Release plx :D

I would love to see a big name publishing company with a big name developer team working with Yahtzee to create the game of his dreams. How amazing would THAT be?! I'd certainly play it.
He was actually asked to write the "Duke Nukem Forever" script by gearbox. He wrote a script and submitted it. His take on it was a Duke Nukem appearing as the outdated joke in modern society. Everybody would be laughing AT Duke Nukem. Instead they went the route of making everyone else in the game dumber than Duke Nukem, so we could laugh WITH Duke Nukem. Look how well that turned out.

Personally I'd like to see him used as a consultant, then the game could come out with a logo "Yahtzee Filtered". Meaning he'd played their game, pointed out the really stupid parts, and they'd changed them enough to get his grudging acceptance. I would buy any game with that on the box.

Considering Yahtzee spent the bulk of his review talking about games that weren't Sonic Generations, I didn't really see a whole much to take offense to.

Sonic has sucked for the last decade. I'm told Colors wasn't bad, but otherwise it's been one disaster after the next. This is not news.

The amazing thing is that Generations DIDN'T suck. Hell, they not only brought 2-D Sonic back to the consoles, but this is the first time I've really enjoyed 3-D Sonic since the first Sonic Adventure.

Yahtzee's biggest criticism of the game seems to be that it reminds us that those games from 2001 to today happened, which... we already knew.

I remember that you wrote about, how dificult it was, to get every aspect of the animation and sound for a shotgunshot satisfying, when you tried it out. I was wondering what game it was for.

Now I have my answer. Kann nicht warten es endlich zu spielen! ;)

I can't wait! Haven't played a 2d platformer since Braid and Limbo. Thanks for posting it as freeware!

Wait a minte, people are panning Poacher already based on a two minute trailer and because the graphics are done by one person and not by a team of artists? Have you really alienated that many fanbases that people feel the need to get revenge?

I'm actually looking forward to trying it even though it's not my usual kind of game.

I don't know if your game is in the right format, but you can upload it to Kongregate. That's where I feed my flash gaming addiction.

Yahtzee complains about people buying new Sonic games, yet he buys each new Sonic game. Part of the problem?

I wonder what Yahtzee's reaction would b like if someone made a zero punctuation video about his game "Poacher." Though i would think that no one would be able to match his cynical demeanor... though i would laugh no matter how suck ass that review would be

Finally, a reasonable response to a Yahtzee review. (As opposed to everyone jumping onto the "bash Nintendo" bandwagon despite making games that are generally better than Sonic Generations.)
