Honestly, if I could I'd trade in my PS3 to pay for a 3DS right now...

...But since it's my BR player, I've got a few random JRPG's I'm highly anticipating the release of in the future, I've already bought a good number of titles off the PS Store and I can 'wait' for my 3DS, I'm not trading it in...

...Though thank god I have a 360, otherwise I'd wanna shoot myself right now. After all, Graham said it best on this week's checkpoint:

"Good god, can you imagine if Xbox Live went down? Then people might actually care!"

Not sure those were the exact words but you get the idea.

My PSN dedicated brothers, you have my sympathies for the assholes that have decided to lay waste to your online system. No one should be denied multiplayer gaming because of a companies' poor care taking of their system and a group of assholes looking to fuck around and maybe make a profit.

I feel bad for all the players and developers, but I'm wondering who's gonna jump ship before then. I'm assuming anyone who can spare the cash, or was close to doing so already has.

Hmm, I wonder. Will this be a nice *hint*hint*wink*wink* towards developers and publishers to NOT add DRM to a video game.

I hope someone related to Sony reads this.
They should, because this is an incredibly good forum/newssite about anything and everything gaming.

Are you reading this? Great!
Give us Final Fanatasy VII for free and I consider this whole thing a fluke.
Please, I just want to immerse myself in the days of 1997 when I played your opus on my PC with Voodoo II 12 MB GFX card and was still a happy youth!!!!

In turn I will forget about the past month and not badmouth your security to anyone <3
Ah, my type of person!

When I read the headline I thought, oh, well this means that they are gonna say that it won't take THAT long. But apparently not. That's pretty mediocre, good thing I do all my gaming on my PC, my best friend on the other hand is going crazy.

I ok I know how bad the hacking has been but what they should do is just tell the truth as to when ( or if ) they are going to return psn service. I'm not ragging on the company I just want the truth about the service being turned on and if they don't know they should say so.

Still, one hopes the company has some sort of plan in place. The longer this outage rolls on, the more Sony loses face with an increasingly impatient playerbase. Are any of you still anxiously clutching a plush Crash Bandicoot and ticking off the days until you can once again browse the PSN store?
Well no...but i wanna get my gorram DCUO up and runnin' again...

You know what's really pissing me off? The he-said-she-said commentary from Sony. "PSN isn't gonna be back up anytime soon". "We don't know who did it". "Oh, wait, it was Anon." "Oh, never mind. We don't know". "Your info was stolen". "But you already knew that".

COME ON! Just get your act together, Sony! None of these 'announcements' are relevant! Instead of trying to appease customers by releasing a comment about the hack every 5 seconds, just focus ALL of your time on fixing it.

None of these announcements will make me happy until I see one titled "PSN Hack is over/ PSN servers are back up!"

(Yeah, I'm referring to Sony, not any other form of media who publishes the story, by the way).

I know that I'm not anxiously waiting for online play.

I do know that there are others though, that depend on online play. I also know that these people have severely limited patience, which I believe has reached its limits. Sony needs to really shape up. I thought the whole apology meant that they wouldn't be running around like headless chickens and get some form of online play back up. Then slowly, integrate the store with whatever security they think will hold these hackers until 2013~14 (when undoubtedly they'll release PS4) and cross their fingers and hope these hackers will go away and bother Microsoft instead.

It's not looking good, really. I don't know what they're going to offer, but I'm willing to bet a few would have jumped ship after this fiasco. And won't look back.

there's been a lot of ps3's on ebay recently. i think sony's F##ked it! i seriously think in all honestly they may end up using the sega model and end up just developing games. and hey they always have tv's a blu ray players to fall back on should they hit hard times. And this is another reason too why a subscription model for online play although not appealing has it reasons, improved and dedicated security is definitely one of them, as well as notifications of maintenance.

I've noticed there are a lot more PS3's for sale than usual on Craigslist lately.

I'm no tech head, but couldn't Sony do something like
bring their old, flawed PSN back online,
but do it without all the user profiles & info.
Make everyone create new profiles with zero personal info required.
Let everyone game with their new temporary profiles,
and if the network's hacked again, who cares because no one presently has sensitive info on it?

Sure, the store would still be closed, and your stats may not be kept track of or added onto your normal profile, but isn't being able to play w/o stats better than not playing at all???

... Also, if Sony's network isn't ready it isn't ready. Leave them be, we survived before online gameplay existed.
Yeah, but back then, every multiplayer game was multiplayer on the same console. No two player game required 2 consoles & 2 copies of the game. (Yes, I'm still really peeved at Crackdown for that little surprise. It was praised out the wazoo for awesome multiplayer, & then I find out I can't play it with my friend in my own home! Sure, every time they mentioned multiplayer it was with an XBL Gold account, but I just figured they were promoting Gold accounts, as in "it's ALSO multiplayer online," not as in "Gold is REQUIRED for multiplayer".)

*sigh* I really hope the hacker(s) responsible for this are found and punished heavily. At first I wasn't upset about PSN being down because I figured it would be down for only a week or two, but this is getting ridiculous. This isn't only affecting my online games either. I went to play Dragon Age Origins today thinking it would be fine since its single player, but I can't play because trophy information cannot load and it exits the game...

I have two things to say to the hacker(s): I hate you and go die in a fire.
Honestly, no matter anyone's stance on whether they like Sony or not, at this point, I find it hard to imagine anyone disagreeing with that statement (the portion I bolded, at least).

Odd about your situation with DA:O, though. Is it possible you haven't played it since the last time they've released DLC (since those add Trophies of their own)? Mine works just fine, but it's up-to-date circa DAII's launch. Oddly enough, Bionic Commando re-loads its Trophy data every time it fires up, but works just fine for some reason or another. In any case, I just hit Platinum on it last night, and hoped to give Borderlands a go in the meantime...I was a bit concerned because I haven't popped it in in a full year, but even though there was a game update, it downloaded it and started just fine, as well.
Seems almost situational, I guess. I AM playing an Ultimate Edition copy (and as I said, is fully patched, etc) of DA:O, though, so that may or may not have some impact on it; hence why I asked about the DLC situation.

Pretty discouraging that they think 3 weeks from NOW is unrealistic.
That was never said.

They only commented that they never made a claim of being up by May 31st. That could honestly go either way; it's extremely vague for a reason.

Just going to throw this out there:

Is it a coincidence that it got hacked shortly after linking to Steam?

I'm working under the assumption that Sony would place as much attention on security as possible to avoid situations like this, and the impending lawsuits/bad PR.

The massive scale of the hacks is disturbing though.

And to the Xbox people who aren't showing sympathy:

http://www.securitynewsdaily.com/disgruntled-gamer-hacks-xbox-security-chiefs-account-0662/

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2011/apr/27/xbox-live-security-alert-playstation-network-hack

This is a lot bigger than console preference.

As for Sony "deserving it"... I can't say. I think that screwing a portion of your customers=losing those customers is fair. This seems too over the top.

That being said, it would be hilariously ironic if it was a modded PS3 that was responsible for all this.

Did you try to disable the internet connection? It may work. These games 'should' work without online. Worth a try. ;)
