Sony: Games and Movies on One Disc in 2009

I noticied nobody mentioned Sony's first (failed) attempt at this. They already did this with Stranglehold Special Edition in the US, but the Hard Boiled movie wasn't a HD transfer (for legal reasons).

I believe that this idea does have a lot of potential though, especially with movie tie ins.
One case in point would be anime films/series where you have extra scenes that you actually play through in the game and then returns you to the movie. The PS3 is more than capable of creating the same visual style as an anime series as seen in Naruto.

My problem with this is that now Blue Rays are going to cost upwards of 60-70 bucks for a crappy game plus a movie. And we'll get more of these crappy games as well, as their cost is now justified on the disk as you're getting a movie with it.

How about taking the time to make a Blue Ray conversion of my collection worthwhile. Why not reduce the price of the Blue Rays to something more appropriate with the technology, like $20 for a movie, much like DVDs already cost. Or offer deals for purchasing collections/series? Or how about actually including high def versions for computer use rather than that useless DVD rip.

Actually, that would be pretty cool. 'Cept, you know, the whole confusing part about having to watch two screens at once and stuff, but hey! It's an idea, right?

Potentially, interact films could become better. Like watching the film ( e.g Bourne Identity escaping the embassy) but having to complete a game sequence to futher the story.
This was my first thought too, but then that's basically a game that has actual movie clips instead of cutscenes (like the LOTR games) which is kind of lazy to be honest.

LMAO, I thought the exact same thing when I read the post.
But Hideo could just ditch 90 percent of the in game cutscenes and make them into a seperate movie.

Sony should learn that there should be NO spare space on a disc, it should all be used to make a more detailed game.

How will that affect the price of the disc? If including a movie makes the game more expensive, there better be an option to buy the game separately without the movie. I would hate to see a game I like and having to pay extra because a mandatory movie purchase is also included. In that case, I'll file the game as "only buy as used."

Of course, if this isn't the case, I can see a some potential. Especially if you could order a game/movie combination. The ability to choose between multiple movies or none at all would be great.

Nah, completely pointless. You're basically risking the quality of the movie and the game just so you can cram them into one disk.

This is a potentially good idea, could work well with movie tie ins or with anime/cartoon based games.
