If that's the picture of the new "PS4" or a re-release of the PS1 then I approve of this.

Does anyone AT ALL see this for the cheap trap that it is?

If that had been me, I would have called Sony out on their cynical attempt at trying to bribe me into submission. Notch, I dearly hope you see through this.
No one is stupid enough to see this as anything but a bribe. However, it's a no-strings-attached bribe and Notch isn't a games journalist. On the list of people where it matters to bribe, Notch is pretty low down the list and he also isn't the type of guy to have his opinion altered by a bribe alone (I mean, come on, he has a reputation of being insanely out-spoken). If this was Sony's attempt to "win the console wars" (it's hard to say the sentence without a smirk), then they've pretty much appealed to the wrong person.

There is no trap, the trap is an illusion. Everyone knows this is some form of a bribe, but no one minds.

I like the way Sony aren't just taking the negative press route and trying to badmouth Microsoft, they're getting all creative and subtly wooing the existing Xbox 360 owner, who no doubt feel the most betrayed of all. I can feel them sidling up alongside me and going "Hey; I see your current partner isn't treating you right. You know if you were with me..."
I have to say it's working.

This current gen of consoles has let me down for the most part, at least till recently (I'm counting the Wii in there, not the Wii U). Other then for Too Human, the Xbox 360 was a total waste of money for me. I do have 50+ games for it, but most of them could have been bought for the PS3 (it was just cheaper on the xbox at the time etc). I also never bothered to pay for xbox live...never seemed worth it to me.

The Ps3 though didn't have a good online setup for the longest time. I did have some good games and exclusives on the Ps3 though, so I felt even from the start, it was worth the purchase. Not till fairly recently with the PSN setup, did I really start to enjoy having it (other then for the few games I really enjoyed).

My PC and in the last year, my Ipad have become primary sources of gaming for me. Sony though is doing quite a good job of convincing me to get a Ps4 when it comes out. It'll still be up to what games are available, but of the next gen systems, the PS4 is the only one I'm really interested in right now. And having Minecraft on it...would just be icing on the cake (I have it for PC, but skipped it on xbox360 as I rarely turn it on).

I do hope the Ps4 is going to launch with some great games...that is going to be the most important point (especially RPS/ARPG titles for me). The PS3 took awhile to get off the ground with decent titles...so I hope they have learned from their mistakes and will hit the ground running this time.

A very stylish invite. Yes, gotta give Sony some credit for that. A bribe? Yes. A trap? Hardly. Still a nice invite none the less. I can think of very few people that wouldn't be impressed by such display. Still I'm guessing Notch won't be the only one to receive such a thing.

I really am liking Sony and their aggressive move to support the indie scene.
PSOne and PS2 gen they had great exclusive titles and went for 'help the developers and they give us the exclusives that get sales'.

Then PS3 threw that out the window with the obtuse CELL architecture and didn't care much for devs, which cost them a great deal.

Now XboxOne is saying 'screw you international customers!' as well as opening up the possibility of severe privacy issues, but most of us will buy it for its exclusives.

The PSone is looking better than the Xbone!
A VCR is looking better than the Xbox1 right now.

Ah man, the PS1... Remember when gaming was sweet and simple?

It's a smart business move. In the past couple of years we've seen a lot of indie developers. And we, the gamers, like their stuff. It's not a bad idea to let indies do their thing.

If the PS4 were to obtain a port of minecraft, and it was at least a little better than the Xbox one (WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE ISN'T AN INFINITE WORLD!?), it would even further seal a deal that has been sealed since the xbone's reveal.

Also, I don't know about a gold PS1, but a golden PS2? I'd hella buy that.

Microsoft are now trying to push strange tech
They're trying to push the Kinect and always online while calling it a different name, because always online is basically profanity right now. It's not all that strange, if you call it what it is.

I instantly want this to be available to purchase despite the fact that I already have two consoles that play PSOne games.
Hell, I've got three (four if you count emulation) and I still want that beautiful machine.

P.S I wonder how much that Golden PSone is worth?
Do you mean how much did it cost to produce? Or a collector's value? Because I'm sure it's outlandishly expensive in the latter.

"Into submission?" They just want him at their press event, which he could very easily decline. I fail to see the cynical trap in this.

GOOD PR PRACTICES?!
Impossible. Silly Sony did it all wrong, don't they know that the cool kids (Microsoft) would of just letter-bombed him instead?
I feel like I just switched over to a bizarro world where Sony understands its client based. I'm now terrified of the idea that EA will eventually get it too... and then what will I have to complain about?

You'll find something. If there's one thing human beings are astoundingly good at, it's finding something to complain about.

OT: Wonder if it has a reinforced lid latch. They were notorious for breaking on the PS1's.

It's good to see a gaming company actually trying to appease gamers instead of just telling us to "deal with it". Encouraging indie developers seems like a very good move on their part.
I do have a feeling that no matter how much hate people have for the Xbone, they'll just shut-up and take it when MS will announce the exclusives.

I never heard of Dungeon Master 2. Anybody ever played it? What is that about? 0_0

OT: Very cool of Sony to do. If you're going to bribe, do it like this! :D
You make a dungeon and are evil, it's pretty fantastic. I adore it.
I think you are confusing it with Dungeon Keeper. Dungeon Master 1 & 2 are old-school dungeon-crawler RPGs.
Aye, I remember Dungeon Master 2 on the Amiga but wasn't that keen. Dungeon Keeper and it's sequel are up on my all-time great list, quite possibly one of Peter Molyneux's finest moments at Bullfrog.

Are you sure Elate? I am sure Dungeon Master was one of the first Dungeon-Crawl games. With it's sequel continuing the Story. Dungeon Keeper may be what you are thinking of...

But props to Sony for the gold-class invite.

Smart Marketing Sony is doing some Smart Marketing hmm?

Funny. I'm conflicted. I see this and I want them to succeed, but I still don't know enough about the PS4 to know if they avoided the Abyss MS jumped in whole-heartedly. Now they have flashing neon signs pointing at the Abyss... but they still haven't shown any signs of having seen them...

It's like I'm a kid at the Theater, waving my hands and screaming at the Protagonist on stage that the villain is behing him with a dagger in hand, only for the Protagonist to seemingly not understand as everyone screams for his safety.

When did I return to Elementary School?

Sony wants him at E3 for the additional attention it would bring them. They aren't trying to do some kind of pseudo conspiracy theory brain washing crap to turn notch into a walking PS4 advertisement. Albeit, maybe we will see Notch robots?
