I've heard that before. Several times. I'd need a few more hands to count it on my fingers.

And I'm getting tired of nay-sayers and doom-propheteers. Notice a pattern here? The fact is, I see a ton of people seeing the glass as not just half-empty, but GONE. And for any substantial reason? Hell no. I've been watching these arguments and the only thing I can say is "Give it a rest.". Let Sony look after Sony.

Honestly, to me this is still the year for the PS3.

As much of an inconvenience this all PSN coming back up is. I'm still looking forward to the line up of games. Xbox360 hasn't really blown me away this year with Gears3 as much as I'm looking forward to it....=/

Not only is their popularity dropping like a stone from this, they're also having an internal revolt because some Anon admin started a heirarchy as his personal Anon "hit squad" and the other Anons want the heirarchy gone so they can go back to the Robin Hood days of Anon instead of attacking companies' customers.

The rampant speculation, naive scaremongering, and self-righteous whining is getting obnoxious.

Even with the best security, these things happen. There are plenty of people trying to manage this against any company as large as Sony and it's pretty inevitable that a vulnerability will be found even in the best systems from time to time. They've managed the situation pretty well all things considered. I can't really see how they could have done a better job.

And I think the lack of PSN service is mostly your fault - you, all of the complainers and speculators. They've been put in a position where they need to look like they're really working hard to fix things even though there's a very good chance that nothing predictable went wrong and it's almost assuredly a very simple fix relative to how large a scandal people have made this. Changing security software on the servers doesn't take this long, which means they're doing more major changes, largely to assuage the unrealistic fears that have now been created. It makes me sad to think that people are likely being fired over this just to slake the public's uninformed, naive thirst for blood.

I don't mind if the store remains down for the time being, but as many services on the PS3 and even some games (or parts of them) or depending on PSN being live, I hope at least the logging in part will go back up really soon.
Perhaps one lesson Sony can take from this is to make their other online services less dependent on a centralized login server, so that if PSN goes down again in the future the impact can be lessened somewhat. Especially for games and services that use their own servers and are not dependent on PSN for anything but authentication, this might be replaced by perhaps a local fallback in the future.

And yeah I am annoyed that my personal data might now be in the hands of criminals, but that is becoming an unavoidable risk given how much must be shared with multiple parties these days. This time it happened to Sony, but even banks and governments have been successfully hacked before so it's not like I blame Sony for being the victim here. The steps they are taking seem to me to be good ones, so I hope that this scenario will not occur again.

First, as consumers, we should always be demanding of the corporations we like, we have to want perfect flawless products and cry havok when it doesn't happen or else we get coke 2, so screw the idea of not criticizing a major corporation. They get paid to sell us good services if they aren't always doing that they aren't doing their jobs.

Second, from the perspective of ANY area of IT, down time == death. Look at any major corporation's network to client relationship, if say Geico's network went down for 2 weeks I can guarantee they would have an employee purging and maybe even farm out their network to a third party while they get their ducks in a row. To not put Sony to the coals for this amount of downtime is ridiculous.

I don't have a ps3, I don't personally care about the breach, sony, geohotz, but I can't believe it when gamers become the most complacent consumers.

I lol'd at sony initially, but now I just feel sorry for them. Sony deserves better from its public whining about how their network is down.
It is down because Sony is trying to get the service working, not trying to get it back up. They could have put it up a day after they took it down but they'd rather find the flaws and secure their shit.
And, by the by, they were running up to date software as well.

And no, I don't own a PS3 and I don't plan to.

Sorry, pissed off Sega fanboy here who misses seeing their bits of circuit board hiding plastic with their logo on them. It bothers me that the Saturn & Dreamcast get made fun of as failures when the likes of the biggest personal information leaks are caused by the likes other consoles.

Yes, he's a professor so he must know what he's talking about, right? He has no hidden inside information. He's only speculating. That's the whole point. Also, I've read on more than one site reports about him beeing in the dark about this entire matter, with links that actually worked. Now, I don't have access to them from where I'm sitting today, and honestly I don't care enough to look for them again. I do, however, care when people are making accusations based on assumptions instead of facts. I've never said you don't have a right to be pissed of at Sony. You assumed this since I argued against your professor guy.
I'm a little bit pissed, but it's not the end of the online world as we know it, unless new legislation starts popping up trying to fix what some peoples parents should've fixed a long time ago.

Well I don't. I played FFX and I just started FFXII (which should last me to the end of next week or the middle of the week after (depending on how long my assignments take). But even then, I didn't play on the PSN, so my depleting game supplies won't really be helped by it getting fixed.
