Seriously? You think we buy that? "Oh... uh, yeah! We didn't copy Nintendo's success, we totally meant to do this. And we totally knew 3D would take off after Avatar was released when we started designing this system years ago."

How dumb do you think I am?

Why so seroius?

OT: I think it would have cost less if they had turned down the power and just duck tape a wii to the side for Move Functionality.

I would probably call bull on the Move, but it certainly was made with 3d in mind, with it allowing two video channels and all.

yeh i believe him. 4 years ago they did mention having plans for the console. they also never denied there will eventually be a premium paid service then too (only thing they said for sure was they would never charge to play online). But everyone has the memory span of a gold fish nowadays nobody remembers.

Kaz has been saying this since the PS3 came out. he just didnt have anything to wave in our faces about what he meant till now :p

on the other hand they did copy Nintendo. XD

Oh joy; it's half-truth and outright lie to our faces time!
"In mind" is not the same as 'made powerful enough to accomodate new functions'.

Kaz says the darndest things!

Ooooohhhhhhhhhhh shnap!

Jeez, people are really being cynical here. Lighten up, not every interview has to condemn the employee.

The Move I wouldn't be surprise if they did have something up their sleeve like that, after all the PSEye camera thing is needed and that came around a year or two after it's release, so yeah, you connect the dots. 3D also maybe, though doesn't really matter though. I probably won't get the Move but it does look interesting and it does support some more "core" titles, 3D also if I had a 3D capable TV.

Either way it's just Hirai boasting about the PS3, why does every article with any company have to be blown out of proportion?

Well, the PS£ has always being built to be a monolith of power and destruction...so it dosnt surprise me it can accomodate it, or, that they even planned it...but, will it be popular is the question

Wow. Plenty of Sony hate in here.
Well, I don't really hate sony myself, but trying to explain that they aren't copying nintendo is really really sad. Microsoft does it too. I think both Sony and Microsoft should admit that they are copying Nintendo. I mean the first part of getting rid of a problem is admitting it, right?

I'm not "hating" on Sony, really, but seriously? This is kind of a bogus statement.
"Oh we meant to do this the whole time, really!"

Still, not every single damn interview has to degrade down to "OMG, [company X] IS JUST MAKING EXCUSES~!@" and whatnot. I mean, really, what is there to really rage against here? Just a guy in an interview, just let the article fall to obscurity.

funny how in one of my latest posts I said something about sony learning their lesson about being cocky. Now they claim it was their plan all along. Should have known better.... -_-

Know how the PS2 lasted so long?

It wasn't because of the tech, it was because it had shitloads of amazing games!

That and hardly any competition whatsoever. Now that I look back at it, it was practically a monopoly!

Well when your competition's Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, and Maximo, you don't have much of a chance :p

Still, the PS2 had it's fair share of shovelware (har har, rhyming), and it wasn't just good games that fueled the PS2's success (DVD playing, and the aforementioned monopoly, came into play to). Sony just got a bit cocky (understatement right there) and tried to ride that lightning twice.

Investing in development and production of consoles is probably horribly expensive, so you're not going to add too much functionality you have no idea of whether or not you will be using it later.
Although, of course, build in everything plus the kitchen sink and then start taking away the features you decide you didn't want (irrespective of whether users wanted them) appears to have been the design philosophy of the PS3 from the beginning.
You mind if I put this in my siggy for every site I go on?
