nope... they pissed off the modders, and they got what they deserved... an ass kicking
wow you really believe that don't you or are you hoping others will believe your nonsense
I just hate Sony for removing OtherOS and other modding posibilities... It's our consoles Sony, stop updating it every god damn day against pirates that doesn't do shit, except piss off customers!
And cutting costs in security, the reason all this happened in the first place. You don't cut costs in you customer's security Sony, what is wrong with you?
I facepalm at how quick to forgive gamers are... They cut costs in your frickin security, but now that you get a measly week of free playstation plus it's instantly okay?

"...increased levels of encryption, additional firewalls, and early warning systems."
That would imply they were previously encrypting data behind a firewall, which wasn't the case. I wish they wouldn't act like everyone is an idiot.

On the other hand, they are doing well in the wake of all this. It'd just be nice if they elaborated on what kind of encryption they are using. It would make me feel much more comfortable about everything.
who can say other then Sony if they had encryption at all. I'm more likely to believe Sony then someone that doesn't even work for them
If you haven't heard, it's has been reported on by many [http://consumerist.com/2011/05/security-expert-sony-knew-its-software-was-obsolete-months-before-psn-breach.html] reputable [http://www.gamespot.com/news/6312333/sony-knew-psn-had-no-firewall-installed-expert] sources [http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/05/psn-servers-were-unpatched-and-had-no-firewall-installed-secu/]. That's besides the fact that the hackers go everything. If it was encrypted, they wouldn't have. All they had to do is elevate their permissions in an unpatched server. Nothing difficult for someone who knows what they are doing.

"advanced security technology, increased levels of encryption, additional firewalls, and early warning systems"

I like how they try to push this as some kind of serious advancement. Adding a few firewalls, and upgrading your encryption level will help, but not substantially. Yes increasing encryption will delay the time it takes for the data to be decrypted, and adding firewalls will increase the amount of time for the information to be accessed, but they're probably both things they should have already upgraded in the last year or two.

Now while early warning systems and "advanced security technology" (Which quite frankly looks like a buzz word) may seem nice and all, I can't help but think all they did was update there systems a bit and call it good.

Every good company calls in security experts from all over the world every time they release a new system, or create a new one. IE : Microsoft/Apple often invites people to crack their OS. And guess what? Someone ALWAYS manages to do it.

I know companies can only do so much, but I really don't feel confident that there won't be another attack that damages them in the future, if the attackers wish to do more damage.

Increased encryption. Nice. A definite improvement over none/practically none.

* and then, we all discover it's not even 128-bit *

Back online in England...despite the EU Sony blog saying it is still offline. Bizarre, but not problematic, though you would think they would want this popular as quickly as possible.

Any way to Portal, However, I am assuming we still can't activate our Steam copy until the store is back online.

*EDIT*

Ok my bad, PSN is not back online, it just allowed me to download the system update, and updates for New Vegas, but wont sign me in. _> So thats how that works apparently.

i hope sony learned a few very important lessons:
1) you dont screw your customers over in the ToS and then sue them, because people will be angry.
2) you dont let the one's who are angry, be the ones who can bring you to your knees in their leisure time.
3) you need to have some security, not rely solely on the fact that the console wasnt hacked.

it seems they may have walked away knowing no. 3. lets hope they learn 1 & 2 before i get a ps3.

Hmm doesn't work for me yet. I'm still getting "Down for maintenance".

Well its not back for me in wiltshire yet. Also you just need to link your steam and psn accounts to do it then enter the code on the steam store
