I remain unimpressed.

I don't understand the appeal in having anything less than a bricklike monstrosity laying on your entertainment shelf.
It's cheaper too!

In both look and cost!

I'm not convinced on the look. It really does look like a cheap toy knock off made in China =\.

Found images, it LOOKS cheap. Power button/eject are no longer touch sensitive. They are actual buttons. Cheap plastic, cheap looks, etc. Given a choice between the 2 if I didn't already have one I think I would still buy a large one.

http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-slimmer-ps3/2216341/

EDIT: .... Seeing the images I just can't believe how cheap and hideous it is. I don't think that will leave my thoughts for quite a while.
Really, it looks fine to me. What exactly about it looks hideous, it's just a thinner, more lightweight PS3. What's so ugly about it? It's not like you buy a console for the aesthetics anyway.
It looks like two pieces of cheap plastic slammed together, that's why it's hideous. The side by side comparison shot of the tops of the two consoles shows off another problem. Wheras the original model PS3 had a sheen to it, the kind that says "look how important I am", the Slim has no shine at all. It's muted and dull. Hard to really explain further beyond that but the big problem is that it just looks like it was built on the cheap (and I really doubt it cost $100 to get the shiny plastic)

And I do believe console aethestics are important. I mean let's be honest, who would buy something this ugly?

or maybe this ugly?

Not that I'm saying Aesthetics is the first thing considered, but the human mind is complex and i'm sure appearance does tend to play a part in ones decisions in what they buy.

Great news, although I'd rather a bigger reduction overall rather than one of this size with a new model. I'll be getting it though, just a question of when.

The post that goes with those pictures over on Engadget says that the release is actually 9/1, not 9/11. Which is it?
I'm pretty sure it's 9/1, since this is the only news article I've seen that says 9/11, while the rest say 9/1 or first week of september.
And I'm probably going to wait until christmas to get this, since I don't have a good reason to buy one yet.

Edit: Rest meaning the dozen other ones I've read.

Nice, was waiting for this to finally happen. Granted, I already have a PS3, but still. I'm curious how this will effect sales.

As for looks... it seems okay, but I don't feel bad having my larger PS3, as I do think it looks nicer.

Wait? How does one get something smaller, thinner, and with more memory...but lower the price?

Someones not telling little ole me something.

You don't get something for nothing, whats the catch. Is there a power brick hanging out the back, is there no wireless...what is it?

So, it's like DS Lite - everything from DS, just smaller, and more expensive.

Cooool. How is it, again, an advantage to have a smaller console that is going to sit under the TV or next to it, again? That's like making PCs smaller and expecting people to pay more for the same power.

I don't really think it is that ugly, but to me it looks like they took part of the PS3 design and super glued it to a Wii... but if it means a price drop, I might be able to afford it in a few months...

Obviously they are planning to take it to outer-space, where cargo for a spaceship cost an average of 2.5 million dollars per inch, so in actuality you save money if you buy the ps3 slim...if your an astronaut.

I almost broke my desk, Read the damn article again.

Particularly the parts that mention price.

Last time I checked, Nintendo DS is about 350-400 PLN, Nintendo DS Lite is 600-650 and DSi is 800 PLN.

Thank God I bought mine for 280. Used model, but barely any signs of the previous user, and I saved a lot of money.

And you read even more carefully.

PS3 Slim = 300 EUR
PS3 Normal = 300 USD.

About 33% more. At least for Europe.

I think it looks pretty sweet. If it's not pleasing on the eye, people could get an original big box for the same money. Go for it.

PS3 is fun and sexy shiny.
