It wasn't "Anonymous" people! Where on earth did you get this idea? It's just speculation, they have no damn reason to attack and do something like this, nor would the average person have the skills to do so. This is something much different.

Also, thanks Escapist for not bringing the Anon thing into another article, I was getting tired of the constant "It could be Anonymous because blahblah".

I will be looking forward to the PSN coming back online :)

I don't think it was Anon either, but you can't possibly argue that they have no reason to do this, they did just announce they were going after Sony after all.

But still Motive does not equal proof, I don't think Anon did this.
Anonimous isn't a defender of Internet right. Not everything they did was to further some righteous cause.

That said, They have stated that it wasn't them or if it was, it was a overzealous splintered group. If it's them, they'll get bad rep with a large group of people (and not just ps3 owners) and if they didn't... well. If the hat fit.

Don't be silly Fanboy wars never die but yes it is definitely going to be used by Xbox fans to bludgeon PS3 users into submission.

I like how people are acting like this is the worst thing to happen since Hitler. This crap happens all the time to different companies. This is the first major problem the PSN has had and its a free service. The only people that have any legitimate complaint are PSN Gold members and I wouldn't be surprised if Sony gives them a week free. In a digital world shit is going to go down. Deal with it.
Having your credit card number stolen (which MOST users use to get DLC) is a pretty big deal dude.
Yes it is, and it takes 3 minutes to call your bank and get a new number. I just did. Shit happens and bitching about it doesn't help is all I'm saying.
Really? What if you have automatic car-insurance, phone, gas and power, payments oh and a mortgage. All of which are steeped in bureaucracy. If you told some auto-bill pays you were changing accounts, they wouldn't take affect until the payment after next. So you can't just switch the number. You have to leave money in the compromised account for a bit while you wait for all those companies to get the ball rolling. Not to mention You have to fill out the paperwork for each and everyone of those. In some cases you'd have two have two different accounts. Wait, than move the money over.
Some people have more complex finances.

Just because you live with your parents, have all your money in one account, or whatever your case is that makes keeping track of all your bills so easy. Doesn't mean everyone else does.

(no mine is not set up like that but i know people who do have such arrangements)

To completely down a whole system like that for multiple days when you know that the company got staff dedicated to maintain it... And you think it's the action of a lone man? You are delusional, lying or a troll. I sure by now that this is the work of a group of hackers regardless if they are affiliated with Anonimous. Unless they are picking their nose at Sony, I can guaranty that the damage couldn't been done by a lone hacker and a "he" wouldn't be able to keep it offline for that long. Each new day will validate more and more my hypothesis and disprove yours. Still, I hope Sony put legal actions on all the aforementioned hackers. Some of them are playing for a service that cannot be delivered thank to them. I would deem fair that the damage being repaid to both Sony and the consumers.

Edit: hahaha. Now I get it! Delusibeta. As in Delusional Beta (beta being a word for stupid or someone slow). You are more clever than I give you credit. You got me good.... I hope I read it right and you do get me good. On the web, you can never be certain.

Jesus, this is a shut down of epic proportions.

From what I understand, Sony had already shut down the servers soon after this whole ordeal began, so not too much information would have been leaked, right?

Still, I (or rather, my father) will be pissed if my information goes out to "unauthorized personnel". Sony really do need to rework their communications skills, at least when LIVE goes down or something Microsoft is damn fast to the trigger in updating their users.

Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think this is as severe as people are making it out to be. It started on Wednesday, with something going on with PSN. Then Sony shut down the servers soon after. It's not like a huge wave of hackers are keeping the service down, Sony just shut it off to prevent it from being exploited any more.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a disgruntled hacker who wanted to stick it to Sony after the whole situation with GeoHotz. He/She found an exploit, Sony responded with a shut down.

I dunno, we'll just have to wait and see...

Why bother with the Fanboys and whether or not their console is better? It's all a cheap ploy to fooling you into thinking you make the right choice. With big release on both console and rare exclusive, I don't see why one should be taken over the other.

This isn't a shut down of an entire system, though, is it? Some "anal external intrusion" was found on the system, and Sony shut down the entire service on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Sony are updating their infrastructure, which I'm sure they were doing ever since GeoHotz released the security root key. It's not like this is a huge DDoS attack on the service.

I dunno, I think people may be over reacting, but it private information is on the line I wouldn't blame them.

I agree I personally like the xbox better but that doesn't mean I think the PS3 is inferior to the xbox its just I enjoy playing the xbox more than the PS3.

I figured this was the major cause of the shutdown. The attacks themselves didn't hit the servers but Sony had to close them to protect their customer's security. Hope they can come up with a new system quickly.

As to who did it? I dunno. But there's no doubt that Anon was at least a motivation to those to did it at best, the culprit at worst.

So even if Anon wasn't responsible this paints all "hacktivists" for this particular conflict a bad light. Which they deserve.

We get what we pay for I guess. I personally used PSN cards to buy all my DLC in case a situation like this occurred. And here I was hoping this was all just because they were working on integrating with Steam...

I think it take way to much time for just a basic intrusion. Like you said, before the intrusion, they were doing updates due to Geohotz's actions but they didn't shutdown server for it. Also, if it was just an intrusion, they should be able to deal with it in a timely manner, we are speaking of an actual company with enough asset to hired a group of informatics expert to patch their security. Answer me this: Why stop it now for One person (if it is one) and why does it take more then five days? You see, thing like that happened before and never on this scale (at least, that I'm aware off).

Not all. See, while I be the first to say that the means doesn't justify the end, some people think themselves so high above their peers that it take some... Illegal mean to take them down. A good example would be Summer Redstone, proprietor Of; Spike, Gametrailer, Viacom, ect. Some people say he got so much money and power that he could kill a hooker in time square during rush hour, bathe in her blood, go to the cop, ask them to dry clean his stuff, and sue the hooker family for the ruined suit. I think it should be taken as a case by case basis.

True. Guess that's more what I meant.

If people are going to break the law to try and make a statement they better be damn sure they're on the right side. Because they'll need the massively moral high ground to justify something like this. And for this whole Geohotz-Sony thing which started it... They were on the wrong side to begin with.

This, although I am laughing because I am a Grade A prick and this is my daily schadenfreude.

Seriously though, this has to be more than Anonymous; somewhere in the world is a very fat troll in his mothers basement lolling himself into his twenty-eight Hot Pocket.
On that note, I figured out who was behind the attack

Youre making a mistake here i think. All Hacktavists are hackers, but not all hackers are hacktavists. If this/these person/people are doing the attack to steal credit card info of customers, and not to prove a point than it isn't hacktavism, it's just hacking.

Not really. I can see why they would make chance so no foreign operation system work on the console. Piracy is a big thing and with console being online and more and more like computer, it was a way to stop the piracy. As it stand, a console is a toy. Which is why I don't get what's the fuss is about. I buy my games, I play them, I do what the console was intended to do and I'm happy with it.
