Spend $50 Million Dollars to promote PSV.
Wont spend ~ $2 Million MAX to allow all global people to have UMD Access despite the obvious lack of knowledge that NO ONE want's to re-pay for a game they own, Which would increase PSV Sales.

Sony Logic right there. :\

I don't know if it's much of an indicator, but I left work (from Wal-Mart) at 11:00 PM, only an hour before the thing comes out (came out?) and nobody was waiting for it. Nobody asked for it. I've never seen this little enthusiasm for a new console. We'll probably sell more Wii's on the Vita's opening week than Vitas.

Sony's just trolling around, it would've been hilarious fitting if they said something along the lines of "problem?".

If I'd be a previous owner of a PSP, I'd definitively be pissed and just stick to my PSP and it's dozens upon dozens of UMDs.

Or, you know, if those neurons of yours are working correctly and you're seriously interested in a PSV, just stop whining, buy the damn thing and keep playing your precious PSP games in your PSP. Madness, I know.

I don't get why so many people are up in arms over this. If you own a PSP and UMDs and you're planning to get a Vita, you can still play those games on your PSP. I'm going to be getting a Vita at some point in the near future, and to be honest, I don't really care if it gets the UMD transfer or not because I can still play my PSP games on my PSP, even if I get a new system. Shocking. And FYI, the UMD transfer system, it's just a discount for people who own physical copies of their PSP games that want to buy a digital copy. You can still be able to download PSP games from the PSN directly on to your Vita memory card and play them on the Vita.

In short: Removing UMD Transfer System =/= removing backwards compatability altogether.

I find it hilariously amusing that everybody in this thread admits to one of the following.
I find it breathtaking that there's only 21 messages in the thread so far and apparently you still didn't even read them before posting this. Because it's blatantly not true for just my reply alone. And a quick scan shows other posts where this is obviously not true. You're trying too hard and seeing what you want to see.

Why are you even here?
Because reading news about Sony is like watching trainwrecks, entertaining in a morbid way. Kazuo Hirai's appointment as a CEO just ensures my unhealty amusement to keep happening for years.

What I read was "People are still buying PSP games in japan, we don't want to discourage them." Considering how long it's been since any of my friends were seen with or even mentioned a PSP, I don't think they're selling very many games to begin with, everyone who plans on buying a Vita probably knows well enough not to waste money on PSP games so it's probably been backburnered to the market of gamers who don't really care for the high end consoles and are just buying off PSPs and games because they're cheap as hell.

What I don't get is that they're discouraging people planning on buying the Vita from buying PSP games, but it's still up in the air as to how many units they'll sell to the west. If it doesn't sell they'll both be down PSP game sales and have a failed launch on their hands.

As an representative of the internet I am utterly outraged at their refusal to provide a service I wouldn't use, for a product I have no intention of buying.
Now to make derogatory comments about anyone with a differing opinion then my own, and somehow relate this back to nazis...

The problem with the lack of demand in the west is the lack of actual releases. I've owned a PSP but if i wanted a collection of decent games for it I'd have to learn Japanese... and I suck at languages.

I believe that he is wrong and that there is in fact a market for UMD transfer here, especially since they didn't insist that all post psp go launched psp games were availble on the digital store as well as in physical form.

Funny, this was my plan. I'm not sure what's so difficult to grasp about it, or why it needs people to grumble about Sony's decision. It's a crap decision, to be sure, and one that is annoying purely for the proof that Sony thinks so little of its customers, but it's not the end of the world. We're not required to pay for the same game again on a different system, because that implies you already own it on PSP, and therefore can play it on that fucking PSP.

Because the value in a system like this is it's portability. Leaving it in a drawer doesn't help when I won't be home when I want to play it, and carrying around two systems so that I can play my old games as well as my new is a very stupid idea.

It's still a very petty thing to complain about. People kept throwing money at Nintendo when they took out GBA compatibility. There's really no excuse for this amount of complaining. It's not like Sony is coming into you house and stealing your original PSPs from you. And to be honest having 2 handhelds isn't biggest deal in the world. Why would you spend $300 to play old games on a new handheld anyways? The whole complaining aspect of this is illogical.

^^This. I don't know why people want to spend $300 on the Vita just to play PSP games on it. That's like buying PS3 JUST to play PS1 games. The UMD Transfer is not a necessary feature at all. So why spend money making a feature that, in all honesty, very few people would use?

Have people become so lazy that they can't just keep 2 handhelds? Hell, people kept buying every version of the damn DS like drones without complaint.

If you're using the portability argument, in for gaming on the go situations, like on a plane or something, you just want to kill time. Do you really NEED to have more than a couple of games, let alone PSP games in addition to Vita? If you're in the mood to play games from one system over another then just take that system. If you were in a situation where you might need more entertainment options over a longer period of time, like visiting a relatives or something, it probably wouldn't be that much of a hassle to just bring your PSP along with your Vita. Hell, I always took both my PSP and DS around on long trips, it's no big deal.

So your argument is you don't want to support a feature for a console that's having trouble selling, because you can't make money off the system as well as you would in Japan, even if it ends up fucking over the sales of your console outside of Japan? Genius!
That's what I'm having trouble with. It's getting harder and harder to tell if the entire game industry is just becoming pants on head retarded or if they overestimate how much gamers are willing to put up with. Or maybe they aren't overestimating; that's pretty hard to pin down too.

I guess basically what they're trying to convince us of here is that because we didn't buy enough UMDs, they're not going to bother. Maybe that will scare the vita owners into buying more software.

Can't wait to see what kind of travesty the ps4 ends up being.
