Sony Working on More HD PS2 Collections

I find this darkly amusing, and think it gets to the bottom line of why PS-2 compadibility was removed from the PS-3.

I mean, how to bring these titles to the PS-3 generation is obvious, the first generation of PS-3s could do it. However why bother, when you can just re-sell the games in a PS-3 format...

What's more to be honest most of the titles I'd actually want (like say Atlus games) are unlikely to ever appear, so basically I'm stuck hoping my 60GB PS-3 is somehow immortal.

Wouldn't it be great to play a high-definition version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City or Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty?

yeah... buy the PC version GTA 3, Vice City or San Andreas TODAY for about $10 and just set to maximum settings.

That REALLY IS all that these "remastered" consoles games are, just PS2 games running at PC standards. Years before the God Of War Collection came out for PS3, on PC you could get the exact same thing running the game on PS2-emulators and turning up the graphics (no it is not piracy, you need the original disc to run these emulators).

Yoshida also said that the idea of releasing PS2 games via PSN had been discussed, but as yet, no decision had been reached: "We are looking into ways how we can deliver the PS2 library to PS3 consumers, but we are not ready to announce anything yet."

How about maybe putting in PS2 Backwards Compatibility?

An HD Collections of the MGS and Driver series would be the first two on my list... Here's hoping they actually move forward beyond the preliminary planning stages for this endeavor.

If they can get Team Ico or DMC collection on there, heck I'd buy those games again...especially since I don't own the Ico collection. Heck I never even got to play Ico.

If they can get Naughty Dog to put out a Jak and Daxter collection, I will implode into myself, then explode into confetti. Those were my favorite games on the PS2.

Also: A Prince of Persia collection would be nice, don't hate me for it, guys, but I never got around to playing them.

That would be cool, too. I never got around to playing Warrior Within, and I hardly put any time into Two Thrones.

With maybe the exception of Shadow of the Colossus, I'm not sure I can justify rebuying games again just for the sake of HD. Neither am I particularly happy with the idea of Sony updating and reselling these games when they should have put that time and effort into releasing a BC patch for the PS3.

That said, I never bought a Sly Cooper game, and wouldn't mind giving them a try. If I can get them in HD, then why hunt down used copies in shops and on eBay?

Incidentally, just out of curiosity, do these games use the virtual PS2 memory card function on the PS3, or do they save into the normal area for PS3 games?
