I see the "PubClub" as simply a money grabbing excersise, like MM is just a publicity one. If people feel that they owe the 'pist money for hosting these forums then good for them, if people want to pay money for the title, well ok it's your money. The site will not be changed by this in itself. The only thing that could change would be the users who have joined the "PubClub" forming some elite clique and posting mainly in the new members-only forum. That would ruin the site.

Oh, don't worry. All the elite cliquers will still post in the regular forums, otherwise they won't be able to interact with me. And that would ruin their lives.

I've said it once I'll say it again, I'm boycotting the pubclub until the price goes up.

Until that time I may create a user group on this website and stepping up my browsing usage until the matter has been rectified, maybe try to get others to my cause of burning the elitist with their personal taglines, damn elitists.

What? OK, that's your right, but it's already dirt-cheap. $0.20 a week? Less than $1 a month? It couldn't get any cheaper. And nobody thinks they're "elite" just because they get a silly title. Titles and badges mean nothing--they're here for people to have fun with.

More on-topic, I guess: I think it's cool that you had a change of heart, and cooled down. I truly think that the Escapist community is what we make of it, so if all of us users just go on as we normally do, it will be what we want it to be.

When I got the system message I was still bleary eyed from a heavy night drinking and it took some time for me to realise what exactly was going on and for a few brief moments, yes, I was furious. After reading so more about it though, I realise that it is of little significance and I won't really be affected if stay away from it. I'm still not keen on the idea though but that being said, I have noticed that some of the adverts here are very peculiar or seem to be less than credible.

I've had a few angry posts in my day, usually insulting people who've jut made honest comments or jokes, these tend not to happen very often though. I can understand how you must feel.

I'm starting to get a tad annoyed at all these people saying "Wow, isn't the Escapist just so shit now?" it's really pointless. If you don't like the site, leave. If you do, stay.
It's not rocket science, you can't change the way the Escapist is now (for better or worse) and bitching about it really won't help anyone.

This is an apology to the members of the Escapist who have seen my posts over the past couple hours. In the time immediately after the announcement of the Premium Memberships (or, rather, after I came on and saw it), I completely overreacted. I'm still against premium membership on principal, mind you, but, after cooling down, I realized that I blew everything way out of proportion. I actually really, seriously considered leaving the site, as a few others have.

I could go into why exactly I was so pissed (and I will if asked), but frankly it's up enough places around the site. However, I just want to apologize to everyone on the site, and I promise to cool down before posting next time, since I've done stuff like this before.

So, anyone in the same boat as me?

Its fine everyone does it. Just look at any of my posts regarding MW2 when the site was in uproar about it and people kept on posting threads about it or any of my MM posts.

I've posted while angry but that was usually directed at the topic and rarely at the community. I'm a fairly mellow people.

I wouldn't have thought that you would be so opposed to this to make a post(s) that you regret. What is it exactly that you don't like about Premium Membership? If you don't want to answer than that is fine, I'm just having a hard time imagining why so people are immediately opposed to this. Many people have given their reasons but none of it seems legitimate enough to get angry over.

This is going to sound stupid, but remember that I was angry. Basically, I saw this move as something so against my image of this site: a site by gamers, for gamers, for the love of the art, with money being a necessity that was still low on the list of priorities. Then, with this following MM so closely, it just seems like that is no longer the case. Clearly, that's bullshit: the site is a business and was back in the "good old days" I and others hearken back to. MM existed much as it is now before I joined, for example, I just didn't experience it for over half a year after I joined, and so I had a mental image of this site that was unrealistic. This just suddenly forced me to examine that image.

Off topic who threatened to or has left?

Pimppeter, Commi, Spartan Bananna (although he hadn't really been coming here for a while, this was just the catalyst of him actually, officially leaving), possibly others.

I knew Spartan Bananaa left and Pimppeter threatened to leave I didn't know about Commi ah well people come and people go I'll be here to stay for a bit longer.
