I never actually played as the space marines; though I spent 4 years working in the a comic shop/game store the only game store in a city of 600,000 that had tables with terrain that they would let you play on for free. So I saw a crap ton of people come in and Space Marines and Chaos Marines were by far the most popular races to play. I disliked Marines because everything about the game was so focused on them.SpaceCop said:I'm curious how The Imperium is still beset on every side by foes when 90% of the 41st millennium's population appear to be loyal to the Emperor.
Imperial Guard, Sisters of Battle, Witch Hunters, Demon Hunters, Grey Knights, Inquisitors, The Deathwatch, The Assassin Cults... And of course, the innumerable legions of faceless fascist theocrats with the best armour, weapons, training and tactics; faster than Eldar, tougher than Orks, they have extra hearts and can spit fucking acid. One single Chapter of them has more backstory and unit options than entire armies of other species. They came in a dozen different flavours while other armies didn't have models for basic Troop choices.
So. Uh. I guess my least favourite Chapter is all of them. Space Marines' greatest threat is their rebellious younger brothers listening to heavy metal in the basement.
I've been on and off with the game for the last 13 years. Originally I played as Dark Eldar, even got some little awards for my minis (worked in a place that sells them and encourages you to make Rad pieces on your down time)
After a couple editions where they were skipped over or barely improved Dark Eldar my feelings got hurt and I stopped playing. Hell for a period they discontinued them in the states altogether.
I also had a smaller force of SOBs/Witch Hunters though slow accumulation has made them the much larger army that I have.

edit: interestingly when it came to Fantasy WH I'd say it was pretty close to even across the board as to which army people played as.
