Master Chief has main cahracter powers so it might be a close one, unless the marines are lead by someone who also has main character powers like Rangar.
And thus the spartan will win because he poccesses the mistical powers of respawn?
In most stories and games main character powers means you basically cant lose now matter what the odds, there are times when these powers fail but its not often.

Ummmmmm...... no.

Sorry, but that can't exist. I call shenanigans.

Burnt down the garden of Nurgle? THE GARDEN OF NURGLE?

Pack your bags, space marines, this guy can defend humanity by himself.

I'm not entirely sure it's possible, but I think that guy may be too over-the-top for WH40K.

I think they've finally out-bad-assed themselves. The frigging Emperor himself wasn't as strong as that.

Where can they go from there? Seriously, I'd like to know.
I quite agree it's terrible fluff (Matt Ward, stop writing fluff and concentrate on rules...please), but it is official canon.

I love how everyone mentioning the Astartes forget that they have no shield system on heir armour, except in certain cases. It certainly isn't standard, at any rate. Whereas Spartans have shield systems, and are physically the match of the Astartes thanks to their augmentations. The only difference here is that Astartes LOOK more powerful, because their armour is more padded out and bulky. That, by the way, also makes them much less quick and agile, where the Spartans have the edge. So if you think logically about this, Spartans have a severe advantage over the Astartes. It'll take more power to down an Astartes because of that bulked up armour, but nevertheless, Spartans would win, purely because they'd be able to attack more efficiently and effectively than an Astartes ever could.
fair point, but if the asartes lands a hit with any one of his ranged weapons, it would plow right through the spartan's shields and either penetrate the armor, or knock him/her back a few meters at least. also, the asartes are still fairly agile despite the bulky armor.

im undecided, because the spartan's strengths here would be agility and strength, but if we do not know of the asartes is as strong or stronger than spartans, only that they are a shit ton more durable. if the spartan is stronger, or the energy sword has some serious penetration capabilities regarding the power armor of the asartes, then he would have a fairly good chance of winning, since he could take one of the asartes weapons, and turn it on them since they are that much more powerful, or he could land an energy sword hit on the guy's brain and kill him, providing he could get close enough.

Well, if the Spartans get the Chief, it's only fair the Astartes get a named guy too.

Introducing: Lord Kaldor Draigo, Supreme Grand Master of the Grey Knights.

This guy was promoted after his predecessor was killed by Mortarion, a daemon Primarch (basically one of the most powerful daemons that exist, last time one was defeated it took about 100 Grey Knights). His first act of office was to track Mortarion down and carve his predecessors name into his heart. On his own.
Then he got cursed and was trapped in the Warp, Warhammers equivalent of Hell. While there, he:
-Murdered Slaanesh 6 favourite concubines. With his bare hands.
-Killed a Bloodthirster of Khorne and beat the daemon's axe into a new sword for himself, still with his bare hands.
-Burned down the Garden of Nurgle.
-Punched Tzeentch' Inevitable City into rubble, burying one of Tzeentch' most powerful daemons in the process.

He basically pissed off all four gods who rule the Warp. And he's still alive.
By now, the few daemons who do not just flee in terror at his approach are considered crazy and suicidal by the rest. He is not so much trapped in hell..it's more that hell is trapped in with him.

So, Master Chief? Yeah, glhf with that.
im not sure if thats a real character or a made up one. if its made up by you good job. if not, someone needs to make every single god in warhammer just to kill this guy. even then it would seem impossible...

Space Marines are only elite humans.
That is so very wrong. I can't even begin to explain why this is so badly wrong.

agility and overall flexibility, not to mention the suit augments their already augmented bodies 10 fold = spartans

however, from what i've read on the astartes, they are ridiculously strong and armored and can get up to pretty quick speeds

so overall, i would say it depends on who has what weapon and how many of them are fighting on the field. I'd be tempted to say spartans for their overall agility and flexibility, but if the astartes got a hold of one it might be over

Seeing as they're both humans defending their species from evil aliens and the like, I think they wouldn't fight but team up.

Also depends if you go with game-based spartan or book based as the book based spartans are capable of a lot more even without their suits, (take down a bunch of mechs with just rope in fall of reach). Book spartan would win, xbox spartan would lose.

Astartes in a ranged battle because there rifles are rocket launchers turn into machine guns, even the bolt pistol and the plasma rife is the equivalent of the covernet rocket launcher.
In melee combat a Spartan, since the energy sword would most likely cut a chainsword in half and it is strong enough to slice right through Astartes armour

It's an actual character from the new Grey Knights codex.

Oh dear god, that was cringeworthy, worst two pages of codex in existence. At least he could have brought a squad of Paladins who demanded to go with him, or Purifiers (most logical choice).

Nope, he's a 'real' (sic) character from the Grey Knights Codex, and if you're a WH40K nerd, then you'll realise how fucked up the GKC is...

And Nottingham had the nerve to have a battle report in April's WD of GK vs Daemons. It doesn't take a genius to work out that Preferred Enemy, re-roll successful saves, force weapons across the board isn't going to lose!

Yes, I'd imagine one of the 30+ foot tall killer robot with arm mounted laser cannons from Total Annihilation could just about beat a single Space Marine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_Annihilation

Back to the topic: Space Marine, hands down. Considering that Master Chief's armour can't even stand up to a single bullet without his precious shields which can be knocked away with a single punch.

At least it wasn't GK vs SoB.

It all depends on whether the Space Marine rolls a 3 to hit or not, and lets not even go into the 'roll to wound' bit either.

I've been waiting for an SoB update for a while, but I fear what they'll do to it (esp the characters) after the latest few. I'm actually dreading the second coming of Necrons!

He might be one of the Sensi also know as the Sons of the emperor woh have no warp presence and thus scare warp monsters and can live in the warp and not go insane. Emperor may have been capable of such feats if he hadn't been crippled by Horus who was his equal

Didn't Matt Ward take care of that in the BA codex? 'And then the BA's and Necrons fought off the Tyranids together. And after, they each went their own way cause they were tired off fighting, and they lived happily ever after!'

Talk about aneurysm-inducing fluff.

Well universe wise its like letting Batman lose against a Super Human,...its just not cool :D So he`d win....you get the GW guys and Halo creators to team up and write a Astartes vs Spartans fight M.Chief will whooop some ass :D

ask a star wars fan, he will give you an encyclopaedia of all the ways star wars beats everything..... despite the second bigger badder death star with no exposed ..exhaust port was beaten by ewoks.
Ask a fan anything about his fandom vs another and you will get a biased opinion.
true as i stated in my other post, i bet a die hard care-bear fan would be able to construct a scenario where a car-bear would win against an astartes or even the death star
