Capitalize your "I"s and stop abbriviating things. We don't care if you make a few typos, or even a few spelling mistakes, but it really makes your post easier to read if you put even the amount of effort required to breath into your posts.

You are, quite literally, making the site look bad.

Concerning the American/British thing, I really don't see that Americans are any less concerned with grammar than us Brits. It was an American who first taught me to put a bit of thought in to my commas and apostrophes, and I know plenty of others who have excellent grammar. One (only slightly related) thing that really does annoy me though is when an American starts correcting valid British English spelling, or vice-versa; for instance with color/colour. They're both fine: there's no difficulty understanding either way.

As far as grammar nazis go, like most people here, I dislike it when someone picks someone else up on a misplaced apostrophe, or a simple spelling error. But if the density of mistakes makes reading the post difficult, then I'm afraid you're probably going to get told so here, and quite rightly. But I think that the least we could do is point it out politely, rather than just insult the person posting.

Wow. That first post was extraordinarily annoying. I can't believe that I actually tried to read it. My brain is actually leaking out my ears.

The sad thing? I am still using better grammar and punctuation than the person who posted it.

I agree with most of y'all: bad spelling and grammar isn't that big a deal, as long as you're at least trying to be understood. F'rinstance, I used a colon in that last sentence and maybe I shouldn't have, but I don't think it screwed up the message. Personally, my grammar (and paragraph structure) has gone way down the drain, but I've yet to have anyone complain that I'm hard to understand. Damn kids and their damn texting! Get off my porch!

Correct spelling and grammar make things easier to understand, as well as making them easier on the eye. Even if rules of spelling and grammar seem strange and unintuitive, they are present so that a language can be more universally understood by its speakers. In short, learn to spell correctly, you twat.

Actually, if you type in the form of your accent (f'rinstance and y'all being somethings I've heard people SAY with some frequency), then I don't care. I understand that spelling should be a no-brainer because you can like open another tab on your browser and go Google the word phonetically to see how it's spelled (especially bigger, more complex words). Grammer keeps you from being misunderstood and giving people headaches. And punctuation helps people know when you paused or changed direction in your thoughts.

So, in reality, unless you're posting here from a cellphone (which you seriously then need to stop doing that for your own budget), try to be articulate and coherent. Otherwise, I'll totally skip your posts as if they aren't there.

I hate unreadable posts with a passion. Usually when I want to read something I don't want to decipher it so that it makes sense. The odd spelling mistake is okay, but please remember your grammar! It makes posts so much easier to read.

It all depends on if they are deliberatly "trolling" on to a thread to rant about the spelling or grammar. If they aren't "trolling" it really depends. I have 2 cousins that attempt to make the shortest text sentence with everything they write. It's as if they never learned any English other than things like "B4, &, Y " That gets old pretty quick if you ask me.

I agree with you on this. The little ones make sense. LOL, WTF, ATM, IMO, things like that don't bother me. As long as you don't over do it. On the other hand, if that's how you formulate an entire sentence or all you know how to say.. That is what gets annoying.

Especially when they are always going "OMG, U NO WAT?" No, I do not know what. I do however know that you can't type a sentence or use the correct "know" yes I did know that. And with puns intended I feel like responding with a "LOL" over that one.

I take a quality vs. quantity approach to people's spelling and grammar. I'll give an example: on a certain website I won't disclose the name of, there was a video entitled "Get Want You Want" to be fair, none of the words in that phrase are actually mispelled but the misuse overshadows that small merit. Seriously, the sentence has four words in it (three if you count the repetition of the misused word), and already by the second word the thing's gone awry. Put simply, if your post is a paragraph or two, I might forgive the occasional "tEH" or even "definAtely", but if the post (or especially the title of your post/thread) is, for example, "Definately teh wors tgame of al ltiem" you've lost respect from the word "Go".

Final thought: if you're going to talk down to someone, do so from a HIGHER place, or at least someplace with spellcheck.

Final final thought: I'm actually drunk writing this right now, and even I'm re-reading it to make sure all's well.

As for punctuation, we're on a forum. It's not like you're writing a book. It dosen't make sense to me to check my reply for punctuation errors, oh well.

I disagree whole-heartedly with these sentiments. The fact that I had to physically re-read your response repeatedly to discern where your thoughts ended. Basic spelling errors and grammar are fine. I'm perfectly fine with minor errors, but considering that you're intentionally making something that is difficult to read is inexcusable. It takes no more effort to strike an extra 4 keys for the entirety of your post to at least signal where sentences ended and where the next begins.

The fact that you cannot be bothered to increase your keystroke load by 4 key presses is entirely too lazy for the amount of effort you demand on your reader. I'm fine for major errors, I won't even demand you capitalize or punctuate with commas. If you're ending a thought, and can't be bothered to hit period or at least force a line break, then you honestly need to re-evaluate your concept of "acceptable errors."

I believe that some of these people have no idea how to properly punctuate.

If you are one of them, just think of it this way:

If you would take a breath when speaking, that's where your period goes. If you'd pause because you're going to add something to a sentence, that's where the comma goes. Ellipses are only used to indicate a long pause between sentences or words.

And that's all I have to say about that.
