since when are X-men and spiderman not Marvel?

Marvel still makes the comics, and the characters still belong to them, but Sony and Fox have the rights to make Spiderman, and X-Man films respectively. These deal predates when Marvel started making their movies in house which saw success with Iron Man 1 in 2008. Ah, the start of a legend in film.

I guess it Doesnt "harm me" but its a real shame and it will be missed by a lot of fans I imagine.

The movies don't even stick to the same continuity in instances where they have all the characters necessary, so I'm not sure why this is any different.
