I think a sandbox game like GTA (San Andreas most likely, as that was more fun) or Saints Row 2 would benefit from split screen. I've had loads fun just messing around in those huge environments, and to do it with a mate, but not to have your camera angle ruled by two players on the same screen (ie Fable 2), would be bliss. One day...

Also, Skate 2 needs split screen. I mean come on, it's a sportsy type/racing/skating around for fun type game. They always used to have split screen didn't they?!

I am fine with split screen because soemtime I will play a game with friends and we will only have one Xbox so we have to split screen and if the games don't have that abilty it really is a screw to anyone who does not have multiple systems or online. so it is nessiacry on games still and I think it always will be

I love playing with other people in the same room. It feels more social to be able to turn and chat with the person as we blow things up. Also, no Internet anonymity. If my friend acts like a jerk, I can pound him.

I thing a co-op game like RE5 needs a splitscreen like toejam and earl had on the xbox.
I really liked the freedom you had but when close to each other it became a single screen.
for race games and FPS games this wouldn't work but games like gauntlet and dark alliance would benefit from such gameplay me thinks.

The most fun I've ever had with split-screen was 4-player Crash Team Racing or the PSone.

However, these days it's quite obvious that, while split-screen is certainly doable, it's not preferable. 4 people playing split-screen = 1 copy of the game sold; 4 people playing multiplayer online = 4 copies of the game sold. To quote the amazing Ben Elton, "do the maths!"

It depended on the size of the t.v. that I was playing on. I have played it, but i only enjoyed playing it on a larger screen so my side of the split is about the size of a normal small tv. If I play on a smaller T.V. then it sucks, because you can't see what the hell you are doing. So yes i have but online just seems alot easier.

I like split screen and system link. It's so much better to scream at your stupid teammates while they're in the same room.

Living in a house full of brothers, we LOVE splitscreen. Some of our most fun gaming moments happened when four of us were gathered around a Cougulation Halo 2 match or battling each other across Hoth in Battlefront 2.

More games need this. I hate the deal with new games like Alien: Colonial Marines and Halo 3 requiring System Link to be played four-player because the developers are too lazy to optimize it for a single system. Heck, did you guys hear Epic's reason for no four-player in Gears 2? They thought it was waste of time because it would rarely get used. Up your's, Epic.

Time Splitters! Bag tag was awesome
Future Perfect was the first shooter that I played co-op split screen. My friend shot me in the head with an arrow, and I had to go the whole level looking like I was wareing that joke arrow thing. I mean, it was a perfect shot for that, and I couldn't watch the rest of the cutscenes for that level without laughing.

Now, where was I... Oh, Yeah. Um, Army of Two was alright split screen. The only thing that I can't stand are the Tom Clancy shooter's split screen. I need it to be one on top of the other, not side by side.

Personally, I'm rather glad that split-screen is dying away because in most games it was poorly implemented. Okay, if you just have 2 players going at it, it generally worked out all right, but if you have, say 4 players on split-screen, the game, whatever game it may be, generally devolves into total, shameless clusterfuck.

Always, screen watching is fair game for us. Can't do that online multiplayer unless it's on a PC.

I just think its funny that they've made systems capable of having 4 controllers hooked into them simultaneously and yet refuse to take advantage of that capability. We're now at a point where a large percentage of people have tvs large enough for splitscreen to be reasonable and they killed it anyway. Castle Crashers was one of my favorite games of the last 2 years because of its multiplayer capabilities. A great single player experience is all well and good but I want the ability to hunker down in a big couch with a couple buddies and a bag of doritos and mash on a game together.

Ayup, I bought Saints Row, because I thought it had split-screen. Ah well, it's a good game nevertheless.

Aaah, the memories. I remember, when I was in a boarding school... We pulled out two TV's and hooked two xbawxes and Halo's. Everyone was "GODDAMN STOP CHEATING" :D

I dont think that L4D has Splitscreen
I use to play RE5 and Resistance Splitscreen. Its just an other feeling if you play with someone who sits with you in the same room and isnt just some guy in some country you dont know
I've seen xbawx360 having split-screen... but I'm not sure.

Split-screen is far more fun in my opinion anyway. At least that way I can punish retards, since remote strangling device is still under development.
L4D does have splitscreen.

There are a couple of reasons for the slow demise of splitscreen that I can see, these are:

1.Money- Why only sell one game for four people when you can sell four!?

2.Subscriptions- I don't know about the Wii or PS3, but the subscription money Microsoft gains from Xbox live is definitely moving them away from split-screen games. Pretty much the same reason as above.

3.Gubbinz- Money, but for cables, wireless stuff, and all that crap needed for online play.

This is pretty much it.

As long as you have a big enough TV it works. I love split-screen gaming, whether it be on the 360 or ps3, or a night of gaming on the N64. It's just a lot of fun to be able to play against someone who is actually in the room.

Yeah, I remember we played games like Gauntlet and Baldurs Gate : Dark Alliance to death, and believe me they were both pretty damn average games, but you add same room co-op to a game, and a good mate, and it suddenly shines. Nothing like shooting the potion as a warrior a second before your wizard friend collects it.

Playing Halo 2 split-screen is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had, me and my friends played that game to death and beyond...

I hate split screen. thats why my bf and I have our own 360s. So we can play online together and not have a smaller view of the levels
