Compared to all the crap on now, really he's the best you got. Fave moment I remember has to be the snowball fight.

Squidward: "Now, Patrick, let's pretend I'm Spongebob."
Patrick: "Then who am I?"
Squidward: "....you're Patrick."
Spongebob: "Can I be Mr Krabs!?!?"

The earlier episodes were good, and then there was a time where they were hilarious, but these days the show is just another generic pile of shit. At least before they got a little witty.

This one speaks the truth! Good lord, what happened to Spongebob? I was in the store the other day, and I saw this Spongebob display, and it looked like they wanted to make him as shiny as possible. It was like staring at something once vaguely familiar through shrink wrap.

My hands down, favorite moment in Spongebob was in Band Geeks when Spongebob sings at the Bubble Bowl. That floors me to this day.

same, I love the songs in Spongebob. Especially the Christmas episode song.

Although, any episode with Patchy the Pirate is automatically horrible. It's a cartoon, it doens't need real characters

Patchy the Pirate is actually played by Tom Kenny, the guy who voices Spongebob.

As for me, I used to hate this show with a passion. I couldn't stand the look of Spongebob and it just seemed too dumb for words. But as someone trying to get into voice acting, I starting watching more cartoons. I started to appreciate the vocal characterizations on the show, which made it more fun to watch, at least from that perspective. Tom Kenny just amazes me, and they get such interesting guest voices; Gene Shallot (sp?), the drill sargent from Full Metal Jacket, Elaine's boss from Seinfeld, David Bowie.

Now I love Spongebob. ::shrug::

In its first few seasons SpongeBob was the funniest kids' show on television. Some of the episodes still crack me up when I watch them now. My favorite moment is the entire Band Geeks episode, especially Patrick playing the drums at the end.

That's exactly it! It isn't edutainment or trying to hit at multiple markets or full of heavy handed messages.

It's fun, and simple, and strange.

Yup. The Bubble Bowl episode bears certain weight within my heart for being AWESOME.

But after a while the show went for the silly jokes and made the characters flamboyantly ridiculous.

I love the "bad word" episode because the dolphin sounds make my parrot freak out! Granted, I do not rank Spongebob in the same category as Invader Zim (best cartoon ever!), but it is as good as some of the ones I was raised on: She-Ra, He-Man, Thundercats, etc.

I feel that you have to embrace the stupidity. And it is not like the older generations can criticise what kids are watching when we are watching Dude, Where's My Car? and Old School to name a couple.

I don't mind the show too much, but damn. Well, I work at Burger King at the moment till I find something better, and if any of you stop by, you know that our Kid's Meals give out Spongebob toys.

The. Fucking. Children. Drive. Me. Insane.
Because of these damn toys. Can hardly enjoy my break anymore because there is usually at least one family with hyperactive children spouting about Spongebob, and this and that about it. Pisses me off. As if children weren't bad enough.

Yeah, I'm a fan of the earlier stuff. One that sticks in my mind was where Patrick is ordering at the Krusty Krab:

Squidward: What would you like Patrick?
Patrick: Um, err... err...*freezes up*
Squidward: How about a Krabbypattie?
Patrick: Okay, I'll have one.
Squidward: Want fries with that? *facepalms as Patrick starts to freeze up again*.

It's a visual joke that doesn't transfer well, but it creases me every time I see it.

the cast and crew of the show are spectacular
they have really built the characters into something amazing and memorable over the last few years
and patrick star is just so damn smart

I can't stand that show. It's single handily responsible for killing the brain cells of hundreds of kids around the world. It's stupid. There is no logic or educational benefit whatsoever. It was made to increase the number of dumb kids so the public schools could feel like they were accomplishing something.

The inventor is actually a very educated person.

In one episode, there was a reference to a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. I shit you not.

Yes...I beleave It was the one with the fishing boots that Mr Krabs tells Spongebob are "Oficail Fry cook Boots".
