Brothers in Arms, Full Spectrum Warrior, Operation Flashpoint, Armed Assault and the original Ghost Recon games are the best realistic squad based games I can think of at the moment. Also, Nickson I love your avatar of Rommel.

There's a question of definitions, but I'm still partial to the earlier X-Com titles (which you've no doubt played already). For a post-2000 game, Operation Flashpoint and its derivatives such as Armed Assault are hard to beat. The keyboard scheme is a little tough, but rewarding for the amount of squad control you get out of it.
