I like the idea that Sony is rereleasing classics on PSN but I would much rather they put backwards compatibility back into the PS3.

Yeah. ..it's a mixed blessing to have compatibility emulation, though. For example, I have the Xenogears disc-set. It's never been released in Europe. But I bought it, dearly, and played the game on my modded ps1. I also played it on a friend's ps2.. which also was hacked. When I bought a ps3, I couldn't play that game, because it's the wrong region. The disc is region-coded, and Sony insists on keeping the region lock. So.. that game still is impossible to play legally in the EU region.

..I don't think Sony see this as a problem, either. SCEE folks will say that if they limit the options people have, their new games will sell better. And that's what they will say to their publishing partners. That it's better to not release old games on a new console, because Final Fantasy XIII is the only game anyone will ever want to play, etc.. I've heard it be said.. no joke.
