As long as they don't stagnate the series with annual releases...
Hmm, well.

Anyone recall how they've been treating Final Fantasy lately?
That's a good point. But seeing how Eidos made Timesplitters in the gap between Deus Ex 1 and 2, I'd say Eidos knows what they're doing, as long as Square doesn't force them to drastically change what we knew about Deus Ex and make them take 5 years to develop it. I'm still looking at you FF XIII.

In my opinion, the series certainly does hold a lot of relevance. The games cannon is definitely within the realm of possibility.

I didn't play the original when it first came out, but I did recently give it a try. I liked it, but I feel that had I played it in it's heyday I would have enjoyed it more, dated FPS gameplay and all that.

I think that this game is going to be what really attracts my attention to this series. Hopefully it will be a worthy successor to the original.

ten more years of Deus Ex being an "Halo", I suppose suicide is the cowards way out of this for a former good series.

Honestly, I want Deus Ex out of the way so I'll finally get some news on Thief 4. I've heard great things about the series, I hope the fans like it, maybe I'll play it someday but I'm more interested in Eidos Montreal's other IP.

I just hope they take a hands-off approach. Just let the devs do their thing.

The very last thing I want to see is Deus Ex being significantly influenced by the likes of Square Enix.

It's sad that publishers and developers look at IPs as good investments rather than the development and growth of their writing, design and art. That is, shouldn't they be more focussed on the improvement and evolution of their skills in crafting games, rather than being focussed on the exploitation of series, brands and franchises?

My thoughts on Human Revolution:
Please be good! Please be good! Please be good! Please be good!

And because the first one was so good, I will buy them. Even if the next nine years of Deus Ex games suck, I will buy the one that comes out in the tenth year.

Does that make me a consumer whore?
no that makes you a fanboy... much like myself...<.<

But as much as I loved Deus Ex, the only Deus Ex to ever be released period not open for discussion, chances are Human Revolution will just be a generic FPS with dumbed down RPG elements I want it to be good but I don't want my heart crushed so I'm just gonna call it crap until it gets a certificate of quality from the mind of Sacman to prove otherwise...<.<
especially since neither Harvey Smith nor Warren Spector are on board as designers...

I will wait for reviews but gameplay looks solid, hope it's good because I find playing the original is just a bit old for me now

Here's hoping though

Taking five years to make them and having people complain that they're to different from previous Final Fantasies?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that the Final Fantasy games we've been getting lately are actually good or anything, but implying that they're stagnant and annual is just downright silly.

The only good thing that could possibly come out of Human Revolution is a renewed interest in the first game. Financial and community.

Well, Deus Ex is in better hands with SquEnix than with Eidos alone.

At least it's better than having Activision raping the franchise over and over for the next decade. Until it turns into another FFXIII.
^^Thought I'd just highlight that.

I'd personally prefer if Square Enix kept their grubby little jrpg claws out of this one (no offense jrpg fans) but I'm prepared to let them prove to me that they aren't all about linear stories concerning massive sword wielding angsty cat-teens.

However if they screw it up I'll be so angry I'll probably..... spend an afternoon writing flame threads on their forums.

Well, we both use characters from 'Thief' in our profile. And yeah, they are good. You should play it for the story and cutscenes alone (good thing the gameplay is great, too!)

OT: Could we start finishing games first before we think about sequels? God, in the last years the only thing that determines the decision seems to be how much fuzz is made about the trailers...
