Saw a video on this. It's mandatory viewing to understand the concept of this test:
Oh come on it can't be that simple [http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2015/02/26/sitting-rising-test-life-expectancy-fitness/24076407/]

Take off your shoes and socks to do this. I tried it on a tile floor.

The concept is you stand, cross your feet, and attempt to sit down without losing your balance or using your hands or anything else to support yourself on the way down. It's the same on the way up--don't lose your balance and don't use any body parts other than your feet to stand back up. It starts off with 10 points total. Subtract half a point if you lose your balance--the points add up in both directions. And subtract a full point if you need to use your hands to support yourself, again one point if you needed your hands on the way down and one if you needed your hands on the way back up.

Supposedly this test will determine how long you have to live. Side note: HAHAHA! So stupid. What the hell does this prove?

...

Still, why don't you try it out? Oh right, don't try this alone I guess. For safety and all that.

When I did the test:
No, I passed the test easily. And I just finished a 3-mile run half an hour ago.

I currently have two sprained ankles, so even watching people do that made me cringe.

I used to be able to do that, though, so either my ankle injury will kill me, or I can do it fine and therefore will live what I assume will be forever.

I still think this "test" is almost as bad as research studies that determine that red wine/coffee/butter is good for you one week, then bad for you another.

Well, I mean, if you can pass the test then all it says (I think) is you have balance. That's it. I don't think it means anything beyond that.

Use as a lifespan predictor? Probably a bit ambitious. Use as a predictor of health that in conjunction with other measures could be used to estimate mortality risks? Sure. It seems like a pretty good, quick and dirty way to gauge knee and hip flexibility along muscle tone and control. That said I kind of agree with your tone as what this test is really telling someone is that they're some combination of old, injured or out of shape. Either way 10/10 here even having done something horrible to my back in my sleep.

I have positional vertigo omgaaaawd have I no time to live any more?!??!

Nah, just kidding, I might try it in a bit but because of my numerous inner-ear problems the balance thing probably won't be applicable to me.

EDIT: Okay I tried it. The first time I very nearly fell over but had no problems getting back up and the second time I got down perfectly fine and then had to use my hands to get up again. That's probably not good, right?

That was exceptionally easy. Looks like I've got a long life ahead of me (knock on wood). I may live to see true VR become a reality yet!

Highly scientific health research there...
There is just no fucking end to the wishy washy medical crockery people can come up with, even in modern medicine. We laugh at the medieval shit they used to do and then come up with our own shit that is just as fucking bad.

I just don't see how your sense of balance can possibly be connected to overall health in any meaningful way. This has to be a correlation /= causation issue. Your balance naturally degrades with age, and aging = you getting closer to death, whether or not you can do this test.

Much as I would love to believe I'm a perfect 10 health wise, I eat about 6000 calories and god knows how much sugar every day, no vegetables and no fruit. This test is bullshit.

I've been doing that for years it was the best way to sit/stand up in martial arts classes.

I suprisingly passed althought I did turn my body abit on the first try (the cross on my leg kind of turn me around abit). Now I typed suprisingly since I know for a fact I am not fully fitted and healthy (not obsess but I take breather a couple of blocks down when running which I know I did better when I was younger).

I can't get up like that, at all :( I guess I am going to die soon.
Shame everything else indicates that I will live well past 80, family history, BMI, and other studies based on other metrics.

Huh. Surprisingly I did this without effort.

10/10 basically.

And I'm a person that trips on things, loses their balance at random for no apparent reason, can have random bouts of leg muscle weakness, and, often can struggle to get up off the floor, or even out of a chair.

So... Actually kind of surprised I can do it so effortlessly...

Yep. Just did it again.

Really quite surprised.

Hypothetical scenario; what if a shark ate my legs several years ago, and I can't do the test? How long does the test say I have to live then?

Hmm, I would say in that case the hypothetical shark attack victim (you) would get magic legs [http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--Hde31VUB--/j8cm5ddndajnzpwrcsmm.jpg]. But you wouldn't be able to stop there, much like certain people with tattoos. You'd replace your arms, your spine, even your brain [http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/igorgaliakberov/27893141/24524/24524_900.gif]. In other words you would go full Adam Jensen Kusanagi, eventually uploading your consciousness into the net [http://i.imgur.com/ZW1DJ.png], meaning you would live forever. After viewing all the world's porn in a millisecond, you would grow bored and decide to place yourself back into a body. The only question at this point is which body would you choose? Some options:

Awful test is awful.

I'm badly out of shape, could lose a couple of pounds and can still do this with ease.

What martial art? I would give preference to the stand and base method of standing back up as it puts a bit more distance between oneself and ones opponent and does so without crossing ones legs while also putting one in a position to protect oneself from possible kicks to the head.

Well, if this test is truly accurate, valid, and scientific, then you're already dead.

Bad luck, friend.

I'll give you this, though: Your typing skills are remarkably cogent for a dead guy. Bravo.
