Stage Fright

I came to an odd realization the other day: I have stage fright.

I think this is odd, because normally I'm amazingly outgoing and somewhat goofy with few inhibitions. But then for the first time, I was filmed.

It was for a college class project, and I was so ready, but the moment that camera focused on me, I froze O_O

It was really odd.

So, does anybody have a similar experience?

It doesn't need to be stage fright either, I mostly mean "have you ever been put into a situation you totally thought you'd be comfortable in, and then you aren't?"

I expect to be horribly uncomfortable in every situation. And I usually am.
I do a fantastic job of pretending I am not, though. So it doesn't really matter.

Not really, no. And it's actually kind of hard for me to imagine what it feels like. I played a big role in a theater production of Dicken's Oliver Twist when I was 12, so since then it's just been downhill, I reckon!

So, my advice to you is: Get hired in a play and perform if front of lots of people! It works! (...maybe...)

It's weird with me. Cause if I do something in front of a lot of people, I feel fine. The weird thing is, I shake horrendously. Seems bizzare if I don't actually mind.

I have stage fright, but that didn't stop me getting an A in drama. Still didn't let my parents see any of my performances.

Get yourself on film (or in front of an audience) more often. Especially if it's friends or family that will see it. Make yourself more comfortable with the environment until it's almost natural.

I had the same with playing instruments in front of my parents, but after turning the amp up so they can hear it downstairs (not too much, just background noise), I got used to the fact that someone could hear it too. I can now play for them on demand.

First time a girl kissed me, I froze up entirely. It caught me completely off-guard and even though I myself wanted to do it, it was completely unexpected.

Besides not really being able to piss while I'm shoulder-to-shoulder with another man, I don't get stage fright anymore.

i can bite down and do it most of the time and not make a complete fool out of myself but i hate it all the same

I have terrible stage fright, actually. When I go up in front of an audience, my whole body trembles terribly, I stutter, I lose track of the script, all that. And it's even worse if it's improv, I simply freeze up and can't think of a single thing to say.

Something tells me I'm going to have to get over this, though, since I'm kinda in my school's Advanced Theatre class. And my high school is praised as one of the best performing arts schools in California.

I do standup, have done it now a few times.
I perform bass solos, have done it a lot.
I act in plays, have done it a number of times.

I shake tremendously everytime. It's just how I am, Im used to my stage fright.

sometimes, I have trouble speaking in front of people, but I can still do it. Its just my words are a bit fumbled.

Always. I get that if I have to talk to more than 10 people at the time I don't really know well >>. I get that when I get on the buss cause I'm afraid to do anything stupid so people will laugh,but I guess that isn't really stage fright, huh? In Norway we use the term for those circumstances too so it confuzzles me. I mumble a lot, I blush a lot, and I do/say tons of awkward stuff that I wish I hadn't all the time.

Well, I'm a performer and I simultaneously have severe stomach issues. The kind of pukish stomach pains. It's enormously fun to be talking to someone and school and BAM!

Mighty Fuck! That wasn't gas! It was...... Diarrhea!

I usually follow that up with "Somebody put shit in my pants!".

Anyway, I would suffer from severe stomach pains before I had to perform in front of a bunch of snotty, apathetic, just plain mean, teenage girls in my Drama class. Lord, that was bad.

Recently, I was sick for a day because I was worried about hosting the news for my entire school.

Those butterflies in my stomach are incerdibly vicious, they can't possibly be butterflies. They might be termites. I'm not sure.

I don't really get stage fright, though occasionally I forget what I'm supposed to say if it's up with more than five people looking at me. It's less because I'm afraid, and more because I go on autopilot me, which is like regular me, but a little more forgetful and quicker to anger.
I also have a tendency to ramble, but that's just me in regular conversation.

I thought this was stage fright in the bathroom, which I do get.

I also have stage fright at gigs and doing speeches and such but once I get going I'm fine and actually pretty good at talking in front of crowds.

I would probably get "The Chokes" quite badly in front of an audience.

I used to have a nervous breakdown in front of more than 3 people.
