GAH, i mean come on angels side its pretty much over and if they do make a new series the Apocalypse is already here, there is no way in hell she would be able to even stand against what was released in the last angel series. i mean come on.... they flooded the earth with monsters for crying out loud, if there just going to casually ignore that one well...

unless im missing something.
They continued that arc in the comics. I haven't read it but it got mixed reviews from what I read.

I thought best episodes were the funny and inventive ones. When you try to take Buffy seriously, it falls apart as in season 6.

A Buffy without humor is just a riff on Blade.

I'm not sure the concept of Buffy can be made to be taken too seriously. According to Whedon himself, the whole idea of the franchise was turning the (once) common horror movie cliche of the pathetically helpless blonde girl upside down. As a commentary, it should never be taken seriously beyond a certain point. The television series had a good balance, but beyond that and it would just seem forced. Her name is 'Buffy' - how seriously can it really be meant to be taken? If they want darker and grittier, they should remake Innocent Blood or something like that.

First off, I am a fan of the Buffy-verse. Secondly, I'm gonna wait for more details before I call this one a disaster. Thirdly, this is gonna be a disaster.

The part that confounds me is that Warner's would hire a 29 year old aspiring writer to pen an a remake of an insanely popular franchise. Inception has made a ton of money, so I doubt they're strapped for cash, but this seems like a cash grab from a very desperate studio. Anderson has apparently no writing experience, and they hand her this responsibility? Something's amiss here.

"while this is not your high school Buffy, she'll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be."

That doesn't sound like dark, gritty at all.

Honestly? Not invovling Whedon sounds like good news to me.

As much as the Whedon fans hate hearing this, they're a minority. Most of his efforts have been failures, and his one success was fairly modest. Most of the public doesn't care about him at all, and probably don't even know who he is. "Hot chick fights vampires" is easy enough to market without Whedon's name attached. Not to mention that s a wee bit of an ego that would get in the way here if they tried to involve him.

Personally, I'm more interested in seeing what a more mature writer can do with the idea than I am seeing Whedon complete the George Lucas cycle and start tearing down his one successful creation.

wow, they're really playing with fire...Buffy has a pretty hardcore fanbase. Of course, so does Star Trek and that reboot not only made the Trekkies happy but also sucked a lot of newbies into the genre. So I guess you never know.
'SOME' trekkies...and to some like myself it's an abomination.

well, you can't please everyone is I guess the lesson. I'm a pretty hardcore trekkie and I was pleasantly surprised by it. My good friend, on the other hand, never liked Star Trek or anything to do with it and she also really enjoyed the movie. *shrugs*

Whedon hated that the movie had been turned into a comedy, and made the series much darker and more serious. The later seasons set the standard for wangst.

If anything, Whedon would be the one pushing to make it more serious while the studio wanted more of light action flick.

I'm not too happy with the idea of a reboot, but aslong as they don't make it all Twillight~y it might be ok.

You know, when I first heard about this, my first thought was "oh god, I'm going to hear nothing but whining from hardcore Whedonites for the next few months!"

So far, they haven't let me down.
