yeah technically the species involved refused to acknowledge "gender". as for would the person be considered transgender.. good question.. they were transgender in in regards to their species and society. kind of trippy to see things reversed like that i will admit

If we are using the term transgender to refer to people who identify with a gender that is different from what they were born as, then yes I would say that the term would be applicable to a species that is normally non-gender, and someone then identifies to the male or female spectrum.

And I'm not sure it was "reversed" so much as they were starting from a Neutral Gender state, and then shifting. To use a math term, they were starting a 0, and then shifted to positive or negative number. For us, the only difference is we already start at either 1, or -1, and then just switch.

Like others here, I found the trailer okay but generally uninspiring. I loved the lead actress in The Walking Dead, so it's got that going for it. We'll see...

I'll echo the comments that it looks too much like the movies, not enough like the series.

And what have they done to the Klingons!

Two things. First, I think a more modern, movie-like look isn't a bad thing. I think the two most recent Trek series suffered with extremely cheap-looking and dated production/visuals, and when you compare Enterprise, for example, to a contemporary like Battlestar Galactica, the discrepancy is pretty glaring.

Second, if those are definitely Klingons, then...well, it's certainly interesting. I can't be bothered much by since we don't know if those are definitely Klingons, and if ALL Klingons will look that way on the show, plus we've seen this types of changes within species appearances between shows and even DURING TV/movie series. For example, the Klingons in TMP don't really look like the Klingons in the later movies.

The simple fact is - Star Trek, REAL Star Trek doesn't make for interesting trailers and trailers that look like the modern Abrams-verse or check too many OBVIOUS SJW boxes misses the point.

I was going to reply to this one with a lengthy post regarding the "SJW boxes" argument, but others have beaten me to the punch with strong responses, so I'll just say this: I can respect the viewpoints of many hardcore Trek fans who dislike the Abrams reboots, even if I disagree with those takes, but what I don't respect, and never will, is a lecture about what "REAL" Star Trek is from someone using the term "SJW."

 

[Breakdown]

Like others here, I found the trailer okay but generally uninspiring. I loved the lead actress in The Walking Dead, so it's got that going for it. We'll see

From the trailer though it looks like she's basically going to be girl Spock, torn between her Vulcan upbringing and her human nature. She even has Spock's dad as a father figure!

The other characters will end up teaching her about exploring her emotions, trusting her instincts, and how to be human.
