I still have high doubts about this game actually coming out, but I do know two things. One: EA is already on many people's shit list, so if DICE manages to fuck this up EA is screwed. Two: this game will never be able to truly meet our expectations due to having waited so long for it to happen.

Based on what Gibeau said, it seems like the next Star Wars: Battlefront game will more or less be a Star Wars themed adaptation of Battlefield 4, with all the shiny graphics and expansive gameplay options that would entail. And honestly? That's absolutely what we want from Star Wars: Battlefront.
No, it's absolutely not. I do not want Battlefield 4: Star Wars Edition, I want Battlefront III. The new Battlefront game should most certainly have more in common with its previous entries than with the modern military shooter that's going to influence it. The absolute worst thing that could happen to this game is for it's gameplay and multiplayer aspects to be modeled after Battlefield's.

Actually I'm not that skeptical of this, unlike most of EA's statements. I really loved battlefront, and I also enjoyed BF3's multiplayer, its no TF2 by a mile, but was quite serviceable for me.

Come on EA, I don't put my confidence in you often, but please don't squash my tentative hopes this time.

It's already been said that Dice Stockholm is making this with some input from DICE LA;

http://uk.gamespot.com/e3/star-wars-battlefront-being-made-by-dice-stockholm-not-la-6410259/

Now I've got faith that Dice will make a competent shooter with this, but it's the feel of the series that concerns me.

Also EA's business model with DLC, Microtransactions and all that good stuff. But they've been wanting to have good PR lately, so maybe they might ditch all that stuff, because it's a Star Wars game and it's a franchise held dear by a lot of people.

On the other hand, it is EA so it probably won't happen though!

This is a crucial point for EA to either finally win some good will from a community that has named it "the worst company ever" or piss away any hope of doing so again.

I really hope this game will be even better than what we've seen from the footage of an unfinished Battlefront 3, that blended space combat with ground warfare. I love the Battlefront games. But, this is EA, and if anyone knows how to beat the life out of a series of games (Command & Conquer, KOTOR, etc.) it's EA.

And they better add mod support.

"Claims EA" And that's... a good thing? Not to be pessimistic but I don't really see a "Claims EA" as a clear confirmation of quality. Hope Dice does make a good one out of this, or there'll be a lot of guys carrying pitchforks...

"Battlefront is a vehicle experience, it's a character experience,"

We know

"We want to innovate. We want to try new things."

Every developer says that all the time

"There's a lot of new stuff that we're looking at too. From our perspective, it's capturing that epic, Star Wars, all-out huge scale. That's what we'll go after."

Blah blah blah hypey hype hype, show gameplay or just make and release the damn thing.

Oddly they seem to be going for the sequel to existing franchise but really this is number 1 approach.

EA is making the next Star Wars battlefront game?

I'll try to hold out hope but well.......EA....
I have no faith in this, I tried but I just can't even pretend that I think it's going to be any good. It's probably going to be a battlefield clone that costs as much as they can charge for it on release and then has a F2P micro-transaction model with half of the content only available as extra paid DLC, it will also probably sell power.

That's the worst case scenario I can think of anyway, maybe EA will be too busy shutting down studios and banning people on Origin to interfere with DICE, that way it could actually be pretty good, I usaully enjoyed the battlefield games up until the recent ones so maybe they will actually be able to make a decent game and maybe even not milk the hell out of it's fans with DLC and micro-transactions..........

Imma go with the worst case scenario, that's what EA has always taught me to do after all.

While I love the Battlefield games, I don't want Battlefront to turn out to be a Battlefield clone with a Star Wars skin. But that's what I'm afraid DICE will do. They need to get this right, they are reviving a much loved franchise, getting it right will earn them a lot of praise, getting it wrong however... I don't even want to think about the reactions.
My sentiments exactly.

Frankly I'll be happy so long as it's still recognisably Battlefront. If it's not, but is still a good game I'll be happy; but more than a little miffed that they felt the need to slap the battlefront label on it. Frankly that's my one concern really. Whether it'll actually be like -Battlefront- or not.

Something tells me they won't be calling George Lucas for consultation either :p
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BURN. Very nice.
I've realised I'm kind of baffled by the language they use to describe it. They say it's a vehicle experience, but honestly what do they mean by that? Is it metaphorical? Is it an experience used as a vehicle to convey something or other? Do they literally mean an experience with vehicles? Probably that one. The fact they called it a character experience makes me kind of wonder whether they played the original two. Because they weren't character driven at all.

EDIT: Ah tits double post. Sorry. :(
