Wait, they axed Revan and Bane? Ok sure I didn't like that they did given a real face to Revan in Star Wars: The Old Republic but still they had invested alot of time and money making those two and aswell the other canon! I guess I'm slight pee off cos I got and like the book The Jedi Path.

Pfft, nonsense.

I get them declaring things non canon for the sake of making room for the new movies, but as far as I'm concerned anything that the movies don't rewrite is still canon until something exists to replace it.

Also, screw Cade Skywalker, that entire plotline is one of the few things the declaration of non-canon has working in it's favor.

Not going to be shedding any tears about Starkiller either.....

This list was crap. Jacen Solo? Really! Where are Grand Admiral Thrawn, Mara Jade, or Gilad Pellaeon?

Fun thread meta-game: figure out everyone's favorite Star Wars novel/game/comic by whatever character(s) they're complaining was not on the list.

Revan and Exar Kun are still canon(and I am pretty sure Darth Bane is too).

It's only the post-Return of The Jedi stuff that is no longer valid.
I'm afraid you are mistaken. Only canon stories left are Episodes + The Clone Wars ; all the rest is under the same "Legends" banner.

Darth Bane is still canon, since he appears in TCW ; however, Revan as well as Exar Kun got the axe. (I'm betting on Revan being added back rather soon though, I've heard that even Lucas liked him a lot. Many other could follow, depending on how (un-)creative the authors will be next.)

Dash Rendar is a nice touch, but putting Galen Marek instead of Kyle "Our God" Katarn sounds like blasphemy to me.

Also, what did Zahn ever do to you ? Neither the Grand Admiral Himself, Supreme Commander Pellaeon Talon Karrde, nor Mara Jade are listed ? What's with that ?

PS : Also, Tahiri Veila.
Would you mind providing the source, because I only heard that it was post return of the jedi.

If it is everything in the EU, then JJ Abrams is even more of a bastard than previously thought.

Thrawn was such a strategical genius he strategized himself out of this list and is confirmed as cannon+starring in his own movie?

I find your lack of Kyle Katarn and Space Rommel Grand Admiral Thrawn disturbing.

Well, most of my favorite EU characters are rather obscure anyway, mostly hailing from stories published in the 80's and 90's. Keyan Farlander, Maarek Stele, Bollux and Blue Max, Voort "Piggy" saBinring, Ooryl Qyrgg, etc. It's too bad most of these aren't remembered much anymore, but such is the case for older EU sources, I guess.

From the wook: "a new continuity has been established that consists only of the original six films, the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series and film, and all future material from that point onward."

Seriously? Galen Marek? I like jar jar more than that emo marry sue. Him being included while characters like:

Kyle katarn
Saba Sebatine
Admeral Pelion
Grand Admeral Thrawn
Tahiri Vela
Talon Kard
Mara
Coran Horn
Ext ext ext

Galen Marek being on the list makes me think the author is about 14 years old, most of these characters being very recent. Even Trioculus would be better on this list. :p

I'd honestly rather keep everything pre-1999 and throw out everything after that, ep 1-3 included. There would be some post 1999 things I'd save, but not much. We could trade the black fleet crisis for KOTOR, the Jedi Prince series for tatooine ghosts.

Am I honestly the only one who doesn't give a fuck what is canon and what isn't? It means nothing, it's a fictional universe it's not like they're re-writing history or something. There is also nothing stopping you from still reading and enjoying the EU. The people in charge don't care about the universe anyway, they proved that with the prequels (which are still considered canon BTW).
Well, I guess one would care about this because it determines what stories we will get in the future.
If Thrawn is not canon anymore, under the new law, we will never see him again. Same goes for all the others.
Bane is safe, at least.
I guess we will keep a lot of the Old Republic Stuff, for better and for worse Disney is about money more than Lucas was, and the won't negate all of EAs Stuff in the Old Republic Era, because it makes a hell lot of money.
Also, I really hope we will get the Thrawn-characters back.
So, yeah. Thats why we care about whats canon.

Mara Jade, Corran Horn, Jaina Solo.

Actually, with a few exceptions both the list and commentators have been talking mainly about the heroes, so...

Lord Nyax, Nom Anor, C'baoth (both clone and original), and Thrackan Sal-Solo.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. The vast majority of the EU was trash. Corrilian and Thrawn trilogies were the only ones even worth mentioning.

Although I will miss my KOTOR buddies.

If I remember correctly, Darth Bane (Or a phantom thereof) appears in the last few episodes of the Clone Wars series. So I think he's still in canon.

All the same, I don't know that I'm particularly put off by dissolving the pre-Disney EU. Lucas was on record as saying it was never in canon to begin with and it's not like they can't mine the original EU for workable material going forward.

Also This means I can more or less ignore the hundreds of rogue Jedi who apparently survived the purge in the EU.
