What what, no witty comic relief black best friend?

They can't even do clichés right. :(

Let's hope the military type will be Kyle Katarn. :D

I superly duperly hope that is true!

To all those complaining about character archetypes, stereotypes, and young ages, remember one thing. This casting call could almost fit any one of the original trilogy. What will make the movies good or bad is not what they cast, but what they do with it.

New Trek might be a girl's wet dream with cliche young people, but they were still great movies.

Play The Old Republic MMO, seems to be a fair few fat Sith in there. Feeding their unhappiness maybe.

My keen Jedi instincts tell me Shia LeBeouf is going to be the "A young man aged between 20 and 25, witty and smart, fit but not classically handsome" character.
There will be many a geek crying out in terror if that's the case. While I don't mind him at all, he doesn't get a lot of love. I don't think this is his kind of movie though... I think after the Transformers and Indiana Jones movies, he's staying away from mainstream film. I kinda respected the guy for wanting to make his money and GTFO of Hollywood early... I can get that mentality.

Also, TOR doesn't really count. The fat people are merely around to be diverse, but in reality it looks silly for fat dude to be badass jedi. No amount of force will help you enough during your first chase scene, unless it's in ships.

Late teenage girl, independent, good sense of humour, also... physically fit .
I wonder if those ellipses are meant to highlight the repetition of "physically fit" in this casting breakdown... or to emphasize that this first girl should also be packing a couple moons of Endor.

I can't believe I said that.
That's no moon.

Any bets on whether the young characters will be the children of Luke & Someone and Han & Leia? There could be some weird kind of space incest going on there though.

They just need to have Chewbacca in there and I'll be happy. No Wookie, no sale.
I was thinking that "not classically handsome" and "classically handsome and confident" in the descriptions just screams Luke and Han. Unless they play it that Luke hooked up off camera, Han and Leia must have been awful busy.
One of the 'official' Star Wars books I read had Luke with a son and Leia and Han had three kids (two sons and a daughter) who were, by the power of narritivium, all powerful Jedi/Sith/Jedisith. But the book also suggested that Lando was a force user :/

I don't know how they are going to be writing the films since there are already licensed books that take place after the films. Maybe they'll retcon it all and say those aren't canon or something. Hopefully they do because they just made everyone and their pet Jarjar a Jedi.

Specualtion is fun! Let us begin.

Young Jedi Knights

Zedd

Jacen

Jaina

Tenal Ka

VERSUS

The Last Command

Captain Pallaeon

Grand Admiral Thrawn

Joruus C'Baoth

Absolutely not canon, but I think it would be funny. And hopefully they'd have Lowbacca, so yes you would get your wookie!

Oh please no.
I think it would be best if all the main cast were virtual unknowns, so the audience isn't carrying preconceptions of the actors into the screenings. And if the new films turn out to be worthy successors to the original trilogy then these actors will become associated with their characters like Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill were.

That is how the Star Wars movies have been traditionally cast, the young characters are unknowns, the older ones may be known, but they're usually someone with some history of genre acting -- like Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.

I wish the 40-something "military type" was Kyle Katarn, but sadly, I doubt that's where they'll go with it. Especially because he kind of defected and went mercenary straight out of the academy, then became a Jedi.

What book? I've read most that exist, particularly the timespan where Luke has a kid, and althugh I've got two or three to catch up, I don't recall it even having been implied that Lando was a force user.

A young man aged between 20 and 25, witty and smart, fit but not classically handsome,
So, handsome.

Man in late twenties, also fit, but this one is handsome and confident.
So, handsome.

Late teenage girl, independent, good sense of humour, also... physically fit .
So, sexy mid-20s.

Second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and physically fit.
So, sexy mid-20s. Gotcha.

(Consistent punctuation, try it sometime.)

I also note substantial overlap between guy 1 and girl 2, and some between girl 1 and guy 2.

Oh, well, whatever. It's all about the writing anyway. Darths and Droids [http://www.darthsanddroids.net/] proved that by making Jar Jar genuinely likeable.

Young people: Two men in their twenties opposite two teenage girls.

Seriously?

I know I'm going to go see it anyway, though.
