Either way, considering the gigantic amounts of money on the table here (this movie is literally potentially worth billions, either by reigniting a worldwide interest in Star Wars for years to come or by making people completely give up hope on the series and making the entire purchase of Lucas Film a waste of money) and considering Disney's stellar accusation of Marvel Films, I'm sure they know well enough now that if they don't bring a quality product to the table they might as well not come to the table at all, but only time will tell.
New Star Wars will earn billions regardless of how bad or good it will be. There are lots of people who will go and see it just because it's star wars. SW fans are the most inconsistent and hypocritical group of people on our planet, not counting video gamers.

As for the treatment of the source material, well I'm guessing J.J will do anything to please the almighty model consumer. His Star Trek went full retard ignoring everything that made the show good in favour of pleasing the blockbuster crowd. And we can't say anything because his decisions are dictated by the needs of the market and market is currently dominated by people with short attention span and low tolerance for thinking, sad but true. Western Civilization FTW.
Its a well regarded fact that better movies tend to make more money (if you really need a comparison look at Skyfall's profits VS. Quantum of Solace), therefore if the new Star Wars movie is good it will probably make more money than if it was bad, but even more important if its good people will start becoming a lot more interested in the series and want to watch more movies, buy more toys, more collectibles, more Bobba Fett PJs, etc.

Also, I'd respond to the second half of your comment but considering you ended your comment with what, xenophobia? I guess xenophobia works as it is used for anyone that is foreign or different, so yes because you concluded with xenophobia I know right now anything I say will be pointless because your not going to listen to a word I say on the matter so I guess I'll just say good day.
Why would you call it xenophobia? I'm merely stating facts about our culture. We created shallow and non-intellectual society that glorifies hedonism and fast consumption. It's 21st century and instead of building a better world and highly sophisticated culture we are standing still. Of course we developed a number of sophisticated technologies but that doesn't change the fact our mentality is the same as it was in antiquity. If Rome had TV quality of their television would be as low as it is today.

Add me to the "can't be as bad as Lucas" camp, which is where I've been since JJ was originally announced for the project. Adding Kasdan can only make it suck less.

I assumed that when you condemned western culture you were doing it as an outsider of it (considering Western culture is a phrase with no real concrete definition or parameters you might be an outsider of it in my eyes and not in yours) but I digress. The reason I won't argue with you is because you have a firm dislike (at the very minimum) of at least one aspect of Western culture that seems to put you into a negative disposition of what this movie is going to be, and that is so huge of an opinion that I won't ever be able to change it with a few paragraphs on the internet.

Meaningful arguments do not necessarily have to change one's opinion they can also serve to exchange views and see things from different perspective. As for the film itself please note there is still a chance it might be as well written as the Empire and turn out to be a phenomenal success. But with all they told us so far I'm simply not very optimistic. Abrams is not a good story teller his films are sub-par and made to meet marketing standards first Star Trek is a good example of that.

Kasden is old. He might not be as good, as sharp, or as imaginative as he once was. But he will still be better than Lucas.

He's working off Lucas' treatment so at least the story will have heart and good intentions, I'll give Lucas that. But Kasden actually cares about the script, which Lucas really found a chore.

Plus they're actually going to be doing more than one draft, so that's better than the prequels already.

I didn't hate the first half of Super 8 but that's the only praise I can give Abrams. My only hope is that he learns something off Kasden.

I don't mind if Abrams directs the first one. But I'll be very sad if he gets to direct the others.

Star Wars needs someone with heart and vision and who is willing to take risks. JJ is not that person and he's been around long enough to judge whether or not he has the potential to ever become that person and the answer is no.

Something something something JJ Abrams sucks.

Abrams isn't a bad director at all. He also even admitted that he feels dumb for using so much lens flare. Although the lens flare never bothered me and I didn't really notice it until people starting pointing it out. I guess I was too busy watching Zachary Quinto be awesome.

And for the record, I liked the Spock/Khan throwdown towards the end of Into Darkness.
