I'm boycotting the film.

Not because I'm racist, though, it just looks like ass. Look at that picture and tell me it doesn't look like a comedy.
Is it really a boycott if you aren't going to something because you don't think you'll enjoy it?.

In that case I'm been boycotting marmite for the last 25 years. Fight the power!

I'd expect a boycott like this to talk about forcing political correctness down our throats rather than saying it's anti-white and talking about white genocides.

Then again Poe's law can apply just as well to racist propoganda as it does to religious propoganda.
There's one black guy I've seen so far like the original trilogy, so I don't think they're attacking political correctness here. so it's either trolling or really dumb people.

I'd like to think this isn't serious, but then I remember how stupid people are and then I remember it's perfectly possible.

Well, well. Assuming this is serious, this is another testament to the "Damned if you do, damned if you don't"-attitude that is so rampant on the 'net these days.

I bet you anything people would've started a campaign that the new ones were racist/sexist/whateverphobic if the lead was white/straight/male blah blah blah.
But don't you fucking dare have a diverse cast either, because then you're just anti-white/straight/male blah blah blah.

Why must people on the Internet be such whiny babies when it comes to stuff like this?

EDIT: You know, now that I think about it... Maybe this was started to prove a point; Because people would ***** about how offended they would be if the MC/most of the cast was white/straight/male/whatever people felt like being offended about. Maybe this was started to show how fucking stupid that is. In that case, it's almost brilliant: It's simple and straight to the point.

...Or am I giving these guys too much credit?

Well, it is nice to see an actual boycott over it. Shame is that it is for the wrong reasons. I boycott it because it is now a property of das haüs der maüs, and I refuse to allow them to have a single cent of my money.

Although, I really didnt need a reason to boycott it because I am one of the few people in existence that LOATHED the original trilogy. The prequel trilogy, while not all that good, did much more for the franchise by setting up much needed improvements that had been mostly conceived out of the now murdered expanded universe, for example the lore related to the Sith. The franchise for me peaked and promptly died at KOTOR1 and consequently KOTOR2. So it wasnt as if there was really anything lost for me hearing Disney bought the property.

Furthermore, just looking at the trailers, you can already see that Disney has done what Disney does, and is building this thing from the ground up to be nothing more than fan service cash in. Its too "pretty & Shiney" with too much focus on trying to feel like an extension of the original trilogy and distance itself from the only films that gave the franchise any real depth.

So I could understand if there was a boycott brewing because it looks as if it is going to be another exercise in Disney franchise mutilation and milking.

Playing devils advocate, I could ALMOST understand a race based boycott, given the franchise has never been all that diverse. However, regardless if it is a departure, you can already tell that most of the cast IS in fact white, so its little more than being alarmed for the sake of being alarmed. There has been a big focus on being anti white for the sake of inclusivity but the likelihood of this being such an example is ridiculously unlikely.

Its such a shame to see people get all worked up for the wrong reasons, yet cant be bothered for the right ones.

EDIT: Captcha= Blaze a trail
LOL.. yeah captcha, sure, I know that more often than not all you do when you blaze a trail is to cordon yourself off from everyone else and set your own ass on fire. I know how well that works.

The Daily Mail genuinely complained because the finalists in Great British Bake Off were too "PC" (only one was a straight white man. Of course, they had advanced on baking ability, but that kind of thing is irrelevant to The Mail).

With that in mind, I wouldn't be surprised if this was real. The Bake Off thing is even stupider, and that's genuine.

Anywho, I think the trailer looks pretty cool. I don't even mind the lightsabre with handguards.

This reminds me of the Fantastic Four reboot when we found out there was going to be a black storm... er... black brother... er... the Storm brother was going to be black (and the sister was still white). At least with that one I could understand being upset, mainly for the reason that it reeked of crow-barring in diversity for diversity/branding sake and not for the story's sake. (and the horribleness of the movie ended up overshadowing all of that anyway)

But these are new characters and a new story... like honestly... who cares? My guess is trolls trying to spark a real fight between the PC and anti-PC crowds.

I'm lukewarm on the movie myself... I'll see it just because it's Star Wars... it won't be another cultural landmark like the orig-trig but I think Abrams will make an entertaining movie... with 100% more lens-flares!

Only one black guy in space at a time?

Getting a real Archer vibe to this situation.

On a side note, Can I boycott it for having one of the most obnoxious directors in history instead?, I mean the movie isn't even out yet and I have already seen the over use of lens flare in every single interior shot (No, really look closely at the trailers and you'll notice it)
If you have to look closely to find it, then is it really over used?

I'm not watching it for fear of diversity, I'm holding back from watching it because of forced diversity.

Look, if they can do something good with a female character and a black character then cool, that's great! However, if we start getting SJW vibes and Kylo Ren is an asexual polyarmorous with pronouns then I might just go and live in the middle of Siberia.

No, but that happened? Sheesh.
Reminds me how Mad Max: Fury Road is a feminist piece of propaganda, I guess, for having the audacity of having a strong female role (not to mention the Wives were capable in their own right) in a world where you die if you're soft.
Honestly? Biggest problem I have with Mad Max: Fury Road is that Max doesn't NEED to be in the movie, it should just be Fury Road staring Furiosa, I don't think anything would change. For a genderswap example, Hope van Dyne in Ant-Man: Super capable, doesn't get to do anything important.

This actually does factor in to the new Star Wars since it seems unclear whether Finn or Rey are going to be the MAIN main character, I get the vibe Rey is the real MC and Finn's the support but it also looks like they both get equal screen-time and usefulness. So maybe it's sidestepped the Mad Max/Ant-Man problem and is following Star Wars trend of two main characters.

OT: Anyone told these guys Darth Vader's voiced by James Earl Jones? I mean... black guys in Star Wars isn't THAT unusual... contrary to Watto and Jar-Jar, the series doesn't actually endorse racism... I'm just saying.......

o_O why would it be forced diversity? One character is black, the rest are white and they managed to up Star Wars usual average of female characters from 1 per movie to 2 per movie, I'd call that a step up.

Captcha: Full House, only if Ren IS asexual polyamorous and uses Sith/Sithself pronouns.

I would think it's a prank but I also would not be surprised at all if it were real. I'm sure that there is a very small amount of people that actually feel that way.

I'll be boycotting it for different reasons, because Disney is doing what Disney always does and is shoving a fuck ton of marketing under our nose and assuring us that this will be the greatest thing ever and there should be no room for doubt, while simultaneously killing off sequels and lore that already existed in the first place via the EU, and releasing their own shit to replace it. It's sort of like someone coming in and having your aunt arrested and carted off and then dress up and pretend to be them instead. Also that stupid lightsaber makes me laugh every time I see it so I'll never be able to take anything involved with it seriously.

There's two new main cast members; one is a black, and one has a vagina.

Not enough white penises to satisfy some people, I guess.

Perzactly. Why weren't they white guys? Was a good reason given for why they weren't? You can't have non-white cishet guys in a movie without giving a good reason, or you are pandering to people that want to see people other than white cishet guys.

If these insecure ninnies want to boycott the movie, let them. It's not a big deal, really. All this means is that I won't have too much of a problem finding seats, which was a legit concern for me.

I was actually confused to why the guy was black. I thought he was a stormtrooper and stormtroopers were clones of that one bounty hunter.
