SC2 has already sold out FYI
and it hasnt even gone into pre-order
it is physically impossible for blizzard to not sell out SC2. it is the greatest game ever made, with as much content as SC1X in the first third of the game.

You're not supposed to snip the whole post you're replying to. That makes the thread impossible to follow without reading every single post in it.

And it's hyperbole like this that makes me want to avoid SC2 at all costs. SC1 was not the best RTS of 1998, it just had the better PR campaign. So I refuse to believe SC2 is any different.

Best? Can't say. All subjective. However it is the best selling RTS of all time. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best_selling_games#Top_PC_sellers_by_genre]

I definitely think that the lack of huge game-changing stuff is part of the appeal. It's being designed to be very accessible for people who played the original only a bit - or even not at all - and even though Keane wasn't a big RTS guy at all, he very noticeably improved in each of our matches, and we both had a blast. I think they're going with "simple, sleek, elegant, ridiculously well-balanced."

But that's not to say that there won't be room for over-analytical number crunching nor will it be friendly to the hardcore crowd. I mean, have you seen those battle reports? There is no lack of strategy at high levels, I can tell you that.
You realize I've already accepted the fact that it's about 8-10 years late, that they canceled Ghost to work on WoW, that it won't have LAN play, (when LAN play is in the game right now) that it only has 1 campaign instead of 3, that expansions/extra campaigns are coming out in the following years (I think at one point it was 2009/2010/2011, though I have no idea right now), and that each one of these extra campaigns with a couple more units will be a full 50 dollars?

Did I mention that petition that 243403 people signed?

It's just after all of these setbacks, the game will be nothing of what I or anyone I personally know ever imagined, and at this point it seems to be nothing but a shameless cash-in that they've been saving and building up hype for since ~2008.

I always, always try to be optimistic, but they really seem to be taking habitual steps in the wrong direction. And a news article saying "Hey, they haven't let us know that there's been a problem in a while" doesn't make me feel much better.

Also, I am quite a fan and the last battle report I saw was on StarEdit not too long ago. I don't know if they've posted any since #4. I don't wanna complain about specifics because I did that in another thread and my post ended up ridiculously huge and no one read it...xD

You do realize that you can click the person's name in the quoted area and it links you to that post? Or you can use Firefox's ctrl-F incremental quick-find? Or you could, you know, read the thread?

No, they didn't cancel Ghost to work on WoW. Ghost wasn't even being developed in-studio. The cancelled Ghost because it wasn't up to the level of quality that they were hoping. True, they went on to reallocate some of their in-house resources (art and the like) for WoW, but that's hardly the same thing.

It has one campaign instead of 3, but the one campaign is the length of all three campaigns in the first game. And last I checked, they were referring to SC2 Zerg and Protoss as expansion packs, which indicates that they won't be full price.

SC1 + Brood War got you 60 missions. SC2 + Expac 1 gets you 60 missions, all three gets you 90. It's just the same as if they released an extra SC1 expansion. Only you don't have to buy all three to get the full (Favorite Race Here) story, like you would if they broke the campaigns into three parts and included all three races in each game.

I really, really can't agree that they're headed in the wrong direction, because everything I've seen of the game and played myself is fantastic. I mean, earlier this year I thought DoW2 was a great game, but even pre-beta SC2 compares rather favorably to it. It has a fluidity of play that I really haven't seen anywhere else in an RTS in ages.

Wow, I should really re-read my stuff before I post.

Sounds mad bitter and raged.

Anyway, yes, you're right. They didn't cancel Ghost to work on WoW. Ghost isn't even canceled, technically; I just know that they moved some of the people around - that's how reallocating priorities goes. That's fine.

I realize that the one campaign is going to be long and great and progressive and whatnot, and thankfully I'm a Terran fan. However, Blizzard has said that the "expansions" won't feel like expansions and each will feel like their own game. So I think that even if they aren't an "expand-alone" as I call them like Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, that they'll probably charge 40-50 dollars for each.

As far as I know, they haven't mentioned price at all. But I would assume that they hope to offer "great value" at an "appropriate price" and either way, it means I'm paying 130-150 for something I thought was going to be 50. Note how I said before that I've come to accept this, and I sort of look at them as "big content patches."

And I plan on getting them all instead of "waiting for the 100 dollar battle-chest" because they're probably all going to be great, and in order to keep up online I would doubt that much of the community would only be playing with 0 or 1 expansion packs. They said they'll add units and change things for each one, so... Sort of required if you're looking to have a lot of people to play with, I think.

Again, since I haven't played the game, have no idea if/when there's going to be a beta, if/when I will get a key, haven't attended BlizzCon, etc, etc...

I'll just trust you on this. But that kind of fluent play is what I found when I played Supreme Commander, and now I find myself unable to enjoy a game where I can't use the tactical zoom like that. I just hope Blizzard has updated the interface to still feel as fresh and smooth as the original did; from what you tell me, they have. :)
