I love Steam. I've built up my game library significantly since I signed up in December 2009 (a bit over a month ago).

Their constant deals. Just this week, it was $2 for Psychonauts. I will never be bored again.

I bet Shamus Young is punching big holes into things because of this Statistic.
I was thinking of him as well... But I still say that his points are valid, more now than ever.
I agree that his points are valid, but fortunately, by the time Digital Distribution has started to die, alot of the games I can no longer download will be out dated or I won't want to play them, and by that time I'll be back to discs, quick-sharp.

Steam is one of those programs that, if you're a PC gamer, you will have (or if you're just starting, you will in a very short time). It's not just because HL2 and MW2 (and few big names do) require it, it's because it's actually a decent program.
The deals can often be jaw droppingly good (£7.50 for KB: Armored Princess? Having that!), and the sales are just brutal in their pricing, especially that last one. My game collection seems to have gotten incredibly greater since I started properly using Steam.
It's also good because you can just delete the content, you don't have to uninstall. The auto-patching etc just makes it absolutely brilliant.

...and about 3/4 of all those 25 million accounts are banned CS hackers I guess.

But good for for Valve, I guess they earned it in the end with constant bargains and free updates.

How is this a feat of any kind? If Steam required some kind of service payment then yea, but it's free to join!

Well that's just silly.

This doesn't sound like such an accomplishment.

The only reason I'm a Steam user is because I can't play Dawn of war 2 or Empire Total war without it.

If you are going to force people to use your program to play their games, you don't get to brag about the number of people using your service.

This is like Nintendo boasting about the number of units of Wii Sports they've shifted. Who would actually have bought it if it was an optional extra?
