I guess every Tolkien movie needs a gay British actor...
But honestly, I couldn't care that much. Now if both Fry AND Laurie made it in, I'd be excited.

"The first part of The Hobbit hits theaters in December of 2012, with the second part following a year later."

Hahaha... not being superstitious or anything... but it'd be funny if they decided to put the first showing at the Mayan's "judgment day"... "I've got to see this movie if it's the last thing I do!" LOL

sky rains fire, and people are still at the movies... after the movie's done, they walk out... "glad WE didn't miss this show... wait... did we miss something?"

Apparently, Brian Blessed is playing King Dain(?) as well...

This should be awesome!

Stephen Fry is awesome. Though my suspicions are that Jackson is going to flub this one even worse then Two Towers. As Jackson talked about how stupid all of the little songs in the Tolkien books were.

The Hobbit without those songs is just not the Hobbit. Just another dumb Hollywood action/adventure movie.

They're still doing The Hobbit!? It's been so long since the last Lord of the Rings film that I thought they weren't going to bother. Fuckin' A, man.

Given this is Peter Jackass it's probably going to be something like skateboarding up the side of Mount Doom to shoot down Sauron's helicopter.
Aaaaaannnnnddd...... that's bad?

That sounds like the most badass thing ever.

Anyways, good choice. I really love his voice. I think he will do a good job.

Hopefully PJ doesnt allow Stephen Fry to go to Over the top with his peformence, which Fry does tend to do if allowed free rain. Because whilst he is a great actor(although I personally dont like him as a person, I find him to be a smug pompous fool who IMO has delusions of grandeur and holds some very questionable & dated views on various issues. Also the level of sycophancy over Stephen Fry also annoys me, people treat him as if he was the messiah, when he really isnt anything special at all). But I digress back to my main point, as i was saying to much of his pompousness can become very grating & annoying very quickly, but I have trust in PJ that he wont screw it up.

Now all that needs to happen is for Stephen Fry to be on an episode of Doctor who and i will be happy..Don't get me wrong, it's awesome to see him in the Hobbit but, cmon admit it: Stephen Fry in Doctor Who would be pretty sweet.

Why must I see this so early in the morning? Everyone's asleep so I can't squee my head off, pointing out how awesome this is as I jabber on nerdily.

People are recalling QI and Bones, but my first exposure to Fry (and Laurie) was when PBS started broadcasting Jeeves and Wooster [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeeves_and_wooster]. Does anyone else remember watching that in the 90's?

Wait, Stephen Fry is in Game of Thrones? Why the hell have people been talking it up so much when they could have just told me that? Well now I have to watch it.

Really? This is the man who stated to microphone that "the only reason women have sex is because that's the price they're willing to pay for a relationship", and then has a tantrum at the paper who printed it:
http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2010/10/31/stephen-fry-claims-the-observer-has-portrayed-him-as-the-antichrist-over-straight-sex-comments/

The man who throws a hissy fit when someone describes his tweets as "boring":
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/oct/31/stephen-fry-leave-twitter-fans

The "technology" columnist for the Guardian who hasn't got a clue how GPS works:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/01/18/stephen_frytard/

The QI presenter who states on air that "pitch" and "frequency" are two separate things, apparently unable to read off his cards.

As an actor, he's great - Blackadder, Fry and Laurie, etc, remain some of my favourite programs. But as a person, he's an obnoxious, self-absorbed windbag. As has been so frequently remarked: "Stephen Fry is a stupid person's idea of a clever person".
