Just out of interest, who here on the escapist is a fellow King reader, and if so what are some of your favourites. In addition what do you think of the various film adaptions that have been made over the years?

My favourites are probably:

Bag of Bones (which I am told is getting a film adaption, I would love to see Kurt Russell play Mike Noonan)

Under the Dome

IT - The film version of this classic horror tale is perfect in my opinion, however as scary as the film may be (I am scared of clowns) the book is so much more terrifying. This is because with a book you can picture what is going on yourself so the imagery etc is always going to hit home more than a film.

The Mist

And out of his short stories - The raft, the man in the black suit.

I have not yet finished the dark tower series, I am on book 4.

I am a huge fan of Steven King. His novel Bag of Bones got me into his work, and since then I pick up his books whenever I see them.

Pet Cematary has to be my favorite so far. It is the only book that I have read that truly frightened me.

The movie Stand by Me has to be my favorite of his movie adaptations. I have to say that it was one of the best movies of the 80's, in my opinion.

Other books I have read by him, Insomnia, Cujo, The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon, Cell, and there are others, I just can't think of them right now.

Glad to find another King fan on here. =-)

Does anyone else only like to read his original print books (with the original covers) more than the newer publishings? There's something great about picking up an old King book for 25 cents at a yard sale, enjoying the smell of the yellowing pages as you read through.

I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I aim with my eye.

I do not shoot with my hand; he who shoots with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I shoot with my mind.

I do not kill with my gun; he who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father.
I kill with my heart.

I am. Favourite is the gunslinger, tho I'm not finished it yet. I've got like 12 of his books, but haven't had time to read most of them unfortunatly.

Im going to a place this weekend where books are $1, and $2 for hardcover, so hopefully ill be able to find some there XD

IT is one of my favs even if the movie traumatized me as a lad so hard i was afraid to go outside in the rain for a few days. Another one i like of his would be Christine,Maximum Overdrive and perhaps The Shining.

Really? I loved the book, but I found the film to be somewhat disappointing in comparison.

Agreed with you there, I am yet to go into a charity store and not find at least one King novel for 25/50 pence.

I'm not convinced of the literary value of any of his books but I have to admit, his books tend to have above average results when it comes to film adaptations. - Stand By Me being among the best.

I used to read a lot of his stuff, but I haven't in quite some time. I think the last one was some short story about a man lying conscious on an autopsy table but being unable to move or otherwise show any sign of life, untill... oh the ending. XD

My favourite book - I'm not sure perhaps The Mist, but I didn't see the movie adaptation nor do I feel the need to.

Yeah i like King i am currently reading through the dark tower series too.
I like the scene where Edward (I think thats his name? There has been like 6 months between me reading the 4th book and the one I'm getting soon) thinks he has gotten pro at drawing his gun. Then sees Roland quickdraw and realises that Roland probably could have made and eaten a burger and still have time to draw in the time it took Edward to draw.

I love him. He overdoes things a bit. He writes too much. And he's not much of a stylist. But by God, the man can tell a story. The horror this man sees in mundane things, I wouldn't want to live in his head (although I'd be rich too by now).

I was in a plane on a long-ass flight, it was night, and there was this pack of clouds far off with this electrical storm in it. It was badass. And I thought immediately: "King sees something like this and The Langoliers is born." His imagination is vast.

My favourites are It, The Tommyknockers, and The Dark Tower-series. Oh, and On Writing.

I love his short stories, especially some of the ones from Just After Sunset. Some of my favorite novels are The Stand, Bag of Bones, The Shining, Misery Christine and IT. I've seen quite a few of his movies, my favorite would be Dreamcatcher. I finished The Dark Tower Series last year, and the ending surprised me.

I like the film adaptations of his books, but the only books of his I've ever been able to get through are the dark tower ones because they aren't over long and filled with unnecessary description and scene setting. I got through some of his short Bachman stories too (How the hell did they get the lawnmower man film out of that!?)

I must admit though that for some reason under the dome is tempting me.

I love his writing, but it always seems like he has trouble ending his novels. So I like his short stories more. Nightmares and Dreamscapes and Everything's Eventual are two of my favorite books. I am almost done with The Drawing of the Three (Dark Tower II), and I am enjoying that series so far. IT and The Stand were both very good, just didn't end as strong as they should have. Cell was just a disaster and it makes me cautious when it comes to reading his newer works (although I do want to try Under the Dome).

OT: Yes, I am a fan, just not of his endings.

I love Stephen King. The first book of his I read was Duma Key which I loved. Though I think that my favourite has to be The Shining. I also loved Cell. However my favourite tied with The Shining is The Stand. Absolutely brilliant.

Edit: I also love Desperation.
