On an entirely different note, I wonder what metro's opinion is of The Extra Man...

Oh and don't forget to find the crazy guy who knows what the f--k is going on.

Kudos for mentioning Silent Hill 4. Damn, that one room in the hospital still haunts me to this day. If you don't value sleep, you can go to the TvTropes High-Octane Nightmare Fuel entry on Silent Hill 4 [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SilentHill4]. Ok so that's not the link, but that header picture (geddit?) is still damn scary. Now get to tha HONF page, if you dare.

For me, Ravenholm was scary as hell the first I played through it and didn't know what to expect (the fact that I wasn't as good at FPSs st the time helped). As for "that level" in Thief 3, I didn't find it all that scary, since the level didn't really alter the gameplay that much. I was very slow and cautious on all the levels, and ran at the first trouble, and if you play "that level" this way it's just not as scary since you aren't forced to make quick decisions.

My scariest moment in gaming has to be the first extended action sequence in Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. Seriously, my hands were all shaking and sweaty by the time I beat it, and you could have heard my heart beating from across the room.
Was that the one where you have to escape your hotel room, dashing from room to room and hitting the locks?

NOT THE SHOWER!

How many hours do you have on GMod, anyway?

I've been meaning to ask.
I just passed 666 (no really!) in the last session or so.

But my kids play on it a lot, and I've left it running overnight, so that number is inflated.

I don't play many horror-themed games, but I remember the old monastery level of LoL: Guardians of Destiny. First few times that level freaked me out. Shadows and poor visibility, a very simple set of SFX like hollow wind, footsteps, and a gravelly voice that sporadically said things like "We'll find you." and "Uther..." (your character's name). Combine that with the ghosts, which would literally appear sometimes, and I was tense every time I turned a passage.

I am TERRIBLE with horror and junk, but even I managed to play through Ravenholm my first try without getting scared really (guess it's the years, I remember freaking out the first time I saw the Flood in Halo...when I was but a child). I would agree that after a while I realized the sounds were just in the background. Zombies were annoying though.

I did play it after midnight though...and alone.

Or just headcrabs in general. They terrify me. The whole level of ravenholm was me freaking out and shooting everything.

Metro definitely haven't watched/played enough horror movies/games. Take a shower with a psycho on the loose? Horrible idea.

So, about Ravenholm in Half-Life 2:
I didn't play it until The Orange Box was out (I know, I'm a bad person), but when I did finally pick it up, I spent a good five days straight playing it. And it was AWESOME.

*snipped the rest*
Yeah, I got it at the same time. Ravenholm scared the SH*T out of me. Poison Headcrabs and Poision Zombies scare the life out of me even now

Scariest moment for me was when i was playing F.E.A.R and you could tell the game was building up to one of those creepy moments where the little girl leaps out at you.
Anyway, the girl had just leaped out and was now randomly leaping out at me at quick random intervals when out of the corner of my eye i saw my little sister rush past the door, she was about the same age as the girl in the game(also had long hair) and was also wearing a nightie (looks like the dress she wears), so naturally i s**t my pants and started freaking out that the little girl from the game had somehow appeared in real life!!

Soon realised that it was of course my sister, but for a second there i freaked out big time! :)

Ravenholm's was also scary the first time i played through, especially when i almost completely ran out of ammo at that part where there's about 3-4 of those poison zombies spread out around some alleyways, those were some tense moments :)
(also whenever i was stuck in one of the tunnels, the dark freaked me out)

Good Times! :)

Man I tell ya, the first time I came face to face with one of them fast zombies on Ravenholm, it made me jump. The damn thing came right in front of me out of nowhere, screaming right into my face!

Also I know the one from Thief 3...sneaking around in a haunted, "desolate" mental institution...Didn't want one of the "patients" pinning you down *shudder*

I'm playing Thief III for the first time right now. Haven't been particularly scared yet...
I mean, I've had zombies wheezing into my ear, but they're scary in a "damn, these things don't appreciate a good bop across the bonce" way, not so much outright fear inducing.
You'll know. When it happens and you come across that level, YOU WILL KNOW!

I wonder how many users are going to make a "Basement" reference? Either way, the shower is the WORST thing you could do. I still want to know why the teenage girls think it's the best option in the middle of a serial killer's home.

Calumon: Maybe you could barricade yourself with the cones he has! He can't cross them! :D
