Well, personally, I think that there is the fact that the USA only had conflicts with a few other countries/regions/nations EVER. Nazi Germany, 'Nam, Japan, the USSR, the MidEast.

OT: the whole idea of mocking russians comes from the american fear or russians during the cold war. if we look at movies from the 80s, who is the bad guy? most likely a russian

on a side note, i find it hilarious and/or concerning, that american studios can't get real russians to do the russian voices, so they hire some person, who can emulate a russian accent, and then set him to do the actual russian script...

Well, you don't want Russians, but you prefer Eastern European (former SovBloc) villains?

WHY US IN THE FIRST PLACE?

Why not a European Union force, like in BF2 Euro Fury? Taking on the Somali situation, protecting streets in southern Africa, patrolling jungles in the Congo or in South-east Asia?

Peace-keeping mission turns hot for some reason, maybe old Soviet nukes found in Africa, left behind by the communist forces leaving the continent in a hurry.


Or an arms dealer in Somalia. Rebels in Asian jungles?


I know people are still touchy about this subject, but why not Eastern European issues like the Bosnian conflict/Chechnya?

Well, if you'd make an modern-day FPS without having the US as the good guys, not only would it not sell quite as well in the US, but it'd probably also cause some major outcry from the US. "We're the bad guys? This is pure propaganda!"

Also, am I the only one finding it extremely funny how every story about these fictional modern day conflicts between Russia and the US never even mention China... at all. I mean, a war between China and the US would make for a better setting if you ask me. But then again, good luck making the US win the war at the end and still making it look believable.

Well, considering that such a ridiculous reason for war as "we wanted their land" wouldn't really sit that well with the UN and most civilized nations, the war wouldn't last all that long. Basically, it would be the US vs. Russia, Canada, Japan, UK, France, Spain, Italy, China, Mexico, Australia and almost everywhere else. So, yeah, that would just sort of suck for the US.

That said I really dont care. Wargames have little interest to me, and individual stories are usually more compelling than national ones anyway.

Aren't we the "Bad guy" to whatever opposing force we are facing? It doesn't really matter because it will always be "these guys are bad for this reason and you are the only one that can stop them!", copy paste whatever country/organization you want in hero and villain spaces and you are set.

North Korea tries any funny stuff, the US authorizes Japan to let loose on their Self Defence Forces, american and South Korean troops pummel trough the borders.

To answer your question: It is realistic because the CWC** is the only country besides the UMS*** that shares a land border with the USA, and in the past wars have been shown to be extremely unprofitable (for both sides) when done between two countries that don't share a land border.

Because every one is too much of a dunderhead to comprehend the shear awsomeness of what gameplay would be like in such a historical setting that they automatically assume that it would be a load of not good... Also, the Great War is AKA WWI, and pretty much all the silly-minded fools likes WWII better because that is a sequel.

Now for my two cents, personally, I think a hypothetical Russian-American war would be too one-sided. Russia ain't the woman she used to be. Scratch those last two words and you have something else overdone. Generically Slavic stand-ins for Russians, like the Serbs in Behind Enemy Lands, who are just oddly-named Dirty Commies who are weak enough for us to beat up on. USA vs Russia is the typical archetype because of all the propaganda and hysteria that went on during the Cold War.
USA vs Middle East is also really easy to do because of what has been going on for 10+ years over there.
I would like to see something like France vs England, or Russia vs USA (with Russia as the good guys).
Even more amusing would be a game where all of Europe is a Democratic state that must be crushed under the glorious communist/fascist alliance of North America and Asia. Why? Because that doesn't make any sense, and would be hilarious to see people who say "unrealistic games are stupid!", foam at the mouth.
