Prevent the Treaty of Versailles. No Treaty, no economic collapse in Germany, no war.

...

Profit.

There is no WW1; there is no Treaty of Versailles; there is no economic turmoil in Germany; there is no WW2.
Hold on, Germany didn't really start WWI. Technically yes, but they had no choice. Every state in Europe including Russia had just declared war on them. The Germans just had the forsight to have a plan ready should it come to that (the Schlieffen Plan) and carried it out ASAP.

Besides, hatred between these European superpowers ran so deep that total war would have been inevitable, no matter what.

1) Rewrite the Versailles treaty to not maim Germany, maybe even give them some concessions.
2) Publicly admit that though we disagree, the germans fought valiantly.

There you go, the german people will be much less willing to listen to Hitler now.

Several people have suggested making the Treaty of Versailles less strict. This would never fly with the allies: countries who have lost millions of citizens are going to demand something in return. So, I would argue going in the other direction: make it more severe. Don't simply extract reparations and impose military limits no one cares enough to enforce, but parade British, French, and American troops through German cities, Berlin in particular.

In other words, leave no doubt in anyone's mind the Germany was defeated on the battlefield, not brought down from within by a conspiracy of liberals/communists/Jews. Leave no basis for Hitler to build his myth of a victorious army betrayed by its commanders on.

There still might be a major war in Europe, but it will be one for territory, not for racial annihilation. Less bloody all around.

As for the Pacific... I leave that to people with more knowledge of pre-war Japan to answer.

As one of the first homospaiens in East Africa: Kill all my friends.
No humanity. No Wars. :D

Or if you're the "Intelligent Design" type.......Well, A) I pity you. And B) Kill Eve or something.

I honestly don't think that was as big of a factor as people seem to think. That is to say, I think he probably would have gone into politics and oppressed everyone and their brother who wasn't Aryan and had zero leadership skills beyond incredible charisma, even if he'd gotten into art school. He'd just have been a retarded-yet-charismatic dictator who could draw.

Granted, I can't actually prove that, I'm just a cynic.

OT: I would turn Franz Ferdinand's corpse into a comical puppet, with which I would convince people that he's not dead for long enough to forestall the first World War. This somehow derails history in such a way that the second one doesn't happen either, and Hitler and Mussolini form a polka band together that becomes incredibly popular in America, singlehandedly dragging the country out of the Great Depression through the power of music. Somehow.

well you could still let the spanish have their civil war, it doesnt affect WW2 very much besides give italy and germany a little war practice. Perhapse you could kill Peter the great to stop Russia from evolving, thus causing the balkans to be less threatening. But this might allow Napolean to take over Russia, though that might not do very much.
I wouldn't go as far as say it was non factor in terms of WW2. Spanish Civil war was between Franco's nationalist and Spanish Republic government supported by Soviet Union. Most of western governments did nothing to stop the nationalist movement, and even more so some of the bigger concerns from US supported Franco. It was pretty much a prelude to what happened later and a great test field for new ways of warfare for both Nazi's and Soviet Union.

Killing a leader is never good way out really, too many variables come into play after that. Even if Tsardom would collapse before being reformed into Russian Empire you can't say for sure any other force wouldn't use it as a trampoline for their own grow to power. The situation before WW2 was so complicated that the start of the War was rather question of "when it will happen" rather than "will it happen"

They didn't really start much. I was focusing on the alliance with Austria that would have left Germany out of this mix of it all. I don't know every alliance in the book, but if the Kaiser was dead, then they wouldn't have funded Austria and their attack on Serbia and then if WW1 still happened, Germany would be in a different position, possibly not even involved.

OR
Kill Osman I, he may be innocent, but without him: no Ottoman empire, no one to defend Balkan from Austro-Hungaria, ultimately no "Mlada Bosna", no Gavrilo Princip, no assassination of Franz Ferdinand, no WW1, no WW2
xD nice one.

Get all the leaders to surrender to Hitler immediately?

You wanted it over quick, you didn't say 'well' :D

Alternatively, sneak back thru time and give him a bacon sandwich, if he'd had more bacon he might have been less angry, I've known a few veggies in my time and they can get reaaaal touchy. (I'll guess in advance you can see below my post for proof :D )

Or to be more paradoxical, set up some contrived scenario where in the late 1930s a jew and a black guy come from the future to save Hitler's life, might change his viewpoint, knowing that his plans might wipe out the grandparents of the people that saved him, meaning they wouldn't exist to save him.

The alliances between Germany and Austria were more culturally inspired than political. You know, brothers of the same Germanic race (just like Russia who came to the aid of its Slavic brothers, the Servians). Most likely whoever would have taken Wilhelm's place would have done the exact same thing.

It is an interesting idea though, what would have happened without Wilhelm?

The economical depression caused thew war. Hitler just managed to be the first one to use it to his advantage. The war can be traced all the way back to the first world war, which can be traced all the way back to the imperialism which wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for the napoleon war.

See, from an historical perspective, a second world war was almost inevitable.

don't fund Germany so they can start their war effort, meaning that more work from the US, UK and other members of the allies can put pressure on the eastern front, assuming it started, all in all, the war should end soon enough.
also, accept an early plan to assassinate hitler as soon as war is declared
although, this would cause me to be not born, since i was only created through the war in a manner too contrived to explain.
so PARADOX.

Step one: Find a genie
Step two: Wish to go back in time
Step three: Wish for World Peace

(Step four: Wish for more wishes. If that fails, wish for a new genie)
