Because it's popular. Therefore, opinions about it are strong, and you get idiots who like or dislike it only because it's popular drowning out the people who can debate intelligently.

I think other people will tell you some of the other things, but here's something good: use [*color=whatever color you want]text[/color] (without the *) to color your text.
It's especially fun to make white text and see who picks up on it.

Hello community,

I am new to the escapist (I created and account some months ago but never did anything with it ) and I would like to know the "rules" around the escapist as well as a few tips, tricks, and terminology, such as, how to quote and place "spoiler" tags and what phrases like tl;dr, trolling, flaming mean and the like.

Don't talk about Halo. Be it good or bad. Either way you will start a flame war.

When making an opinion even if your not open to other ideas say you are just so you don't seem like a dick lol.

Sure can do, everyone is entitled to their opinion even if I don't agree with them.
Also, are there any type of profanities that are not allowed?

Don't go overboard. And try not to use Racial slurs or sexist remarks. or the C word lol. Oh and never post lolwut/lolwhat as a response lol.

Just to get your attention

One problem with using the edit button. If you make a post, then edit in a quote, the person you quoted won't get a message informing them of the post. So if you want them to see it, you're going to have to make a new post.

I never really got the whole "lol" "roflol" stuff. I perfer to actually say what I mean as opposed to acronyms or onamonapeas (I know I misspelled that last one).

That's the one. Don't let that mislead you though; you can say **** all you want as long as it's not directed at someone (i.e "You ****!"). That said, you shouldn't, as cursing tends to make people look stupid. By all means, use it to accentuate a point, but don't use it every post. I know you've already said you won't curse at all, but I give you 100, maybe 200 posts before you break that.

I'm just saying that what you said may have been misleading. There was a thread recently where people were asking about people getting banned for "lolwut", so I thought you were referring to that. My bad.

By all means, Donnyp is right, one word answers are bad.

Because there is an alarmingly large percentage of people here who have no opinions other than the ones they regurgitate from Yahtzee, and therefore see anything he thinks is stupid as an abomination. It just happens that Halo is the most popular thing he does not like.

People occasionally post pictures of cookies when they feel someone has done something deserving of a cookie. Internets are just bragging feelgood stuff.

I like Yahtzee and all but I don't allow his opinions to outweigh my own. In each game he has reviewed he has hit upon the main complaints/dislikes that I have but I don't completely agree with him on what makes a great game. He also has never played the multiplayer side of games and quite a few games ie. Resistance 2 and Halo have much better multiplayer aspects than campaign aspects. Although XBl could stand to lose a few obnoxious twelve year olds.

Understandable. That actually brings me to my next point; when responding to a specific person, you should quote them. That way, they get a PM telling them you responded to them.

Our last major trouble makers were banned, we will have the occasional troll but nobody I can think of. Maybe Avykins but he is not that bad.
