Streaming Porn Service Blasts the PS3

SugarDVD is mixing hot girls with gaming on the PlayStation 3.

With the runaway success of Netflix on consoles well established, it was only a matter of time before its mainstream movies and television shows were joined by their seedier yet remarkably prolific cousin, the porn flick. And that time is now upon us thanks to the arrival of SugarDVD on the PlayStation 3.

SugarDVD offers a high-quality streaming video service similar to Netflix, except that its films aren't the sort of thing you're going to catch on AMC. Instead, subscribers are given access to hundreds of high-resolution, full length "adult" videos, "not the cheap grainy web content available elsewhere for free," with new movies being added every day. It's got all the categories you could want [plus at least a few you'll probably wish you never knew existed] and, for the true connoisseur, even offers search options for specific studios and performers.

"Gamers can now have their cake and eat it too on the PS3!" said SugarDVD rep Rebecca Bolen. "We believe we are hitting the nail on the head, so to speak, by offering TV streaming through the PS3 with no discs or downloads."

Let's not kid ourselves here. For all the pointing and laughing we do at the ridiculousness of porn titles and many of the "concepts" around which these flicks are built, this is going to be hugely popular. If I had a PS3 and an internet connection that wasn't akin to throwing wadded-up notes out the window, I'd be all over this. I bet you would, too. And while concerns about exactly which buttons little Timmy is mashing are legitimate, that's a parental problem - so parents, when you're done watching Bobbi Violates San Francisco, be sure to turn the thing off.

The unlimited streaming service on the PlayStation 3 costs $7.95 per month and includes 20 minutes of video-on-demand service, which offers a "pay per minute" service suitable for PCs and Macs. Absolutely no links to any of it will be provided.

Interesting, and probably good for the industry.

Personally not too interested though. *shrug*

Sony is sanctioning this? If so, then that's big change in corporate policy. I recall Sony not letting any games with an ESRB rating of AO be published on their systems.

Believe it or not, porn is big buisness. And its also one that takes many risks for advancement on a regular basis. I dont know what hell they had to pay to get Sony to think that letting them stream thier service on the PS3 would be a good idea, but i would think its one that shoulders none of the risk with Sony.

Much like with Brazzers sponsoring fighting game tournaments, this is something you wouldnt expect to hear about on any day, yet wouldnt be surprised about it actually happening.

..Well, damn. No Xbox 360 love, now!? I see how it is, porn! I SEE!!

....

Meh, the internet is far better for porn. And there is no limit on the internet for it, either.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I foresee sony shutting this down, they didn't even want to let porn be on bluray.

Hmmm... so perhaps the suspiciously phallic shape of the PS Move wasn't just an embarassingly bad design choice after all.... ;-)

Or perhaps a porn mogul saw it and decided to take advantage.
