Now all we need to see is Comix Zone, Vectorman, Golden Axe, and Ristar. I found out about the news yesterday, and I am hyped. The 2d/3d brawler genre is back.Agent_Z said:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_bgPefCyfA
Glad to see SEGA using more than just one franchise.

To be fair, there was a pepper shaker in the first game. All the characters use guns in the fan game Streets of Rage Remake. So there's that.Agent_Z said:Or tasers and pepper spray.Hawki said:...you'd think that in 20+ years Blaze and Alex would learn that firearms would make their lives easier. 0_0
Mother Russia Bleeds, Way of the Passive Fist, Dust, Fight n Rage, The TakeOver, Raging Justice, River City Ransom Underground , Double Dragon 4 (That one is love-it-or-hate-it territory. I thought it was okay.) and Neon, Guacamelee 2 , I Am The Hero, Code of Princess (switch port), and Odin sphere and Dragon's Crown Pro (PS4 ports). Sure most of these aren't big AAA titles, but they don't need to be. These games and developers know who their audiences are. I recommend most of these games.Hawki said:...you'd think that in 20+ years Blaze and Alex would learn that firearms would make their lives easier. 0_0
Anyway, I'm actually glad this exists. Streets of Rage was never my favourite Sega IP, but I played and enjoyed SoR 3 on the Mega Drive, so, hey, it's nice to see them back, and that the characters have aged.

I'm not dissing the genre (even if it isn't really my thing), but I don't recall any massive resurgence. I recall Double Dragon IV getting an installment in 2017 (that was panned) and...that's it.
3D, sure (Devil May Cry for instance), but 2D? Not so much.
The genre is doing very well for itself, it's just not in the form of triple A titles.Hawki said:...you'd think that in 20+ years Blaze and Alex would learn that firearms would make their lives easier. 0_0

Hopefully they'll announce him. It's just not the same without the original trio.Agent_Z said:Shame Adam's been left out of this.
Adam was a beast. If they hack up this game too much for sake of DLC I'll be pissed. But they can't ship the game with just Axel and Blaze, that would be plain stupid, any beat em up worth it's salt, even in the 90s came with at least 3 characters (Double Dragon and Crude Busters aside, j/k)CoCage said:Hopefully they'll announce him. Skate was only a problem if you did Very Hard or Mania by yourself. You have a point, but it usually didn't bother me.JohnnyDelRay said:Adam was a beast. I highly doubt they'll make Adam, or the others DLC, but my mood will be no different from yours should that disaster happen.
There plenty of beat'em ups with only two characters in the 90s: Rushing Beat 1 (Rival Turf), Battletoads and Battlemaniacs, almost any SNK beat'em up, Riot City/Zone, The Punisher, 64th Street, and Die Hard Arcade. I know you're joking, I wanted to have fun and list them off.
I'd love for Adam to come back, I can see though why he didn't make it to the sequels. Trying to diversify the characters, Adam wasn't beefy or slow enough, so they brought in Max, and Blaze was too close to Axel to be a speedy character, so they brought in Skate.
Max was awesome once you figured out how to move with him, Skate was just crap. Felt like you'd do more damage blowing kisses. Zan though, just freaking weird to play as. Certainly strong enough, but just not satisfying.
I see a lot of criticism primed already on the youtube video, people are going to be upset if the soundtrack doesn't live up. But that was a precedent that SoR1 really set. SoR3 didn't even come close, if I'm honest. It would be brilliant if Yuzo could come back to give the game it's original flavor, at least setting the mood, if the graphics don't quite manage.
But I'm not going to expect the moon, nostalgia glasses aside, this will be great fun either way. And there's enough wicked sick 80's synthwave artists nowadays that I'm sure there will be something suitable out there.
I'm beginning to wonder if that might be a thing, considering within the last few years, Sega not only greenlighted Sonic Mania, but we're getting Shenmue III, and now Streets of Rage IV. So if they want to revive more IPs...yay?CoCage said:Now all we need to see is Comix Zone, Vectorman, Golden Axe, and Ristar. I found out about the news yesterday, and I am hyped. 2D has had some great stuff too, especially Dragon's Crown. That game was absolutely stunning to look at and was actually pretty damn complex for a genre typically simplistic.
You get to fight dragons while riding on a sabertooth cat!
I want a sequel. I also love Japanese interpretations of western fantasy.Dreiko said:Hawki said:...you'd think that in 20+ years Blaze and Alex would learn that firearms would make their lives easier. 0_0
